I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I have seven years experience working in mental health, including working with adolescents and adult populations. I strive to normalize mental health treatment and medication management to help individuals become the best version of themselves without judgment. I recognize, as individuals, there is no "one size fits all" answer to mental health treatment. It is important to me all my patients feel heard and understood.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions and a thorough history of yourself and any pertinent family information. We will then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I am passionate about raising awareness and removing the stigma that has, for so long, accompanied mental illness. I know that most people, at some time in their lives, have dealt with anxiety, depression, grief, feelings of not belonging, or simply not knowing how to cope with everyday challenges. I take the time necessary to listen and gather information without making judgement and ensure every patient understands and is comfortable with the treatment plan. I possess the empathy, compassion, and understanding necessary to make all patients feel heard and understood.
I love helping people of all ages who are struggling to make sense of the anxiety or depression that most of us have experienced, but, for which many never seek treatment. I also love helping adolescents who may be struggling with ADHD symptoms or feelings of anxiety and/or depression that so many children feel through the various transitions they experience in their early years.
I utilize CBT to assist patients in identifying problems and negative thought patterns and working to reshape those negative thought processes through techniques best suited to individual needs.
I like to use motivational interviewing to first understand an individual's motivations, values, and interests. This is done by having an open, honest conversation. Motivational interviewing is important in helping individuals recognize behaviors that have a negative impact on their well-being and make changes to such behaviors.
I utilize psychoeducation to help patients understand mental illness, including possible causes, symptoms, and diagnosis. Through this, I teach coping strategies, promote medication compliance, and encourage a good social support system.
