Aloha! My name is Koalani, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in San Diego, CA. I received my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego, and have been practicing for 10 years. I have experience working with both children and adults in schools, hospitals, and on military installations. I specialize in anxiety; stress management, and feel deeply passionate about helping new and seasoned parents navigate parenthood. I also have special knowledge in maternal mental health, and support postpartum challenges and experiences affecting women and their partners during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Feeling comfortable with your therapist is very important during the process of therapy. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is fundamental for progress and growth, and that healing happens through relationships that are respectful, vulnerable, and accepting of you as a whole person. During our first few sessions together, I place a large focus on developing the therapeutic relationship, and getting to know you. Initially, we will focus on gathering background information and what brings you to therapy to help me know how I can best support you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I provide a warm, relaxed, and compassionate environment where my clients feel safe to simply be who they are. I will provide a safe space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences free of judgment.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love helping caregivers navigate pregnancy, parenthood, and postpartum. I also support individuals struggling with anxiety, stress management, and undergoing life transitions--no matter how big or how small they may be.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and commitment therapy views “negative” emotions and experiences as part of life. ACT aims to accept thoughts and feelings without judgment, while helping you to identify and commit to pursuing your values, that which brings meaning and purpose to your life. We will apply mindfulness and acceptance skills to your experiences.
