My goal is to get you to the point where you don't need me anymore. Like physical therapy, the goal is to achieve "maximum medical improvement." I am very solution-based, but I also appreciate the value of needing to be heard, especially if you were in a situation where you never felt that you had a voice. I would say my work is 85% solution-based, and 15% processing emotions. Most of my clients spend approximately 3-6 months working with me. These are my favorite concerns I like to address with people: 1. TRAUMA and PTSD. (Please note, trauma is NOT an event. Trauma is how your mind processes events. There is no such thing as a trauma that is too small.) 2. CODEPENDENCY (people pleasing, inability to say no, fear of upsetting others, lack of assertiveness, chronic feelings of obligation, lack of purpose/identity, impostor syndrome, "false self,"). 3. PSYCHOLOGICAL ABUSE (manipulative friends, family, romantic partners, controlling relationships, cults, abusive churches, workplace bullying, hazing, sexual coercion, undue influence, toxic people of all kinds). 4. ANXIETY, OCD, and PHOBIAS. 5. SOMATIC ISSUES (insomnia, lethargy, extreme fatigue, headaches, hair loss, skin issues, allergies/sinus issues, digestive problems). Do any of these describe you or your situation? If so, I'd love to meet you and talk about how we can work together to overcome your struggles. Feel free to browse through my profile and if you feel so inclined, make an appointment so we can work toward restoring balance to your world again.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
The first session is similar to a consultation: I will help you to determine if we are a good fit, what therapy might look like in our sessions, and what your next steps are after our session is complete. Subsequent sessions start with a recap of the previous session, and then I will ask you, "What do you want to work on today?" If there is something pressing on your mind, that always takes priority.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
Psychoeducation Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT) Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) Drama Therapy/Role Theory (I am a Registered Drama Therapist with NADTA) Career and Higher Education Counseling I also enjoy using Jungian principles in my work, including shadow work, dream analysis and Myers-Briggs personality types.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
The first thing to know about me is that I was recruited into a cult during my freshman year of college. The experience ignited my passion for subjects such as groupthink, mind control, and psychological abuse. It also taught me to question, question, question!!! For this reason, it is common for me to reject therapy concepts and approaches that I feel are more based in tradition rather than actual therapeutic benefit. Secondly, I did not study psychology as an undergrad; I majored in Theatre, and I always say it was the best education in human behavior I could have asked for! My background in drama has given me unique insight into the concept of the self.
