Hey everyone! I am here to help with providing ways to get started in developing a new and happier you. I graduated from the University of Alabama with a Masters Degree in Counseling and I am also a certified rehabilitation counselor, having worked with youth and adults with learning disabilities. In addition I have a post-graduate certificate in Addiction Studies. I am a believer that if the mind and body are focused on goals, obstacles can be overcome, as you become more confident and powerful. We will begin our journey together as we work in small steps toward developing your new goals. These will always be your goals and I am here to help guide you toward them. My work begins by listening to you and then we will summarize what your expectations are. Then I will reflect to you what you have communicated. I will tell you what we can expect to change and how we will be able to make that change happen. My therapeutic techniques are driven by your needs and how you will respond to the new direction. No one said life would not send us off the pretty path that we all want to remain on. It happens. I can't think of anyone who has not had obstacles to overcome. I specialize in helping people overcome rejection, low self-esteem, work issues, disabilities, anxiety, living in the past, how to forgive themselves, addictions, how to stop living your life as the victim, and how to love and accept yourself and others.
in the first session, we will work on getting an understanding of your symptoms. Also, we will work together to identify what goals you have, how long treatment may take, and the expected format in each session. *Note the therapist does not complete FMLA forms.
We all need to learn how to silence our inner critic. We all have one. You know that voice that tells us we are dumb and not worth anything? Let's work to make that voice go away. I have had great success working with clients who have suffered mental abuse, anxiety, rejections, alcoholism, family issues, relationship issues, and depression. I have worked with women who feel tired and stressed from everyday life and all the demands. Are you an adult child from a substance abuse family, who doesn't understand why life throws you so many obstacles? Did you know you can brighten your room by painting it in light colors and adding some plants? There are things that you can do for a better mood. Let's see what you need to be happy!
According to the cognitive model, for every situation in life, we have automatic thoughts. These thoughts influence us emotionally, psychologically, and how we behave. The way to interpret a situation determines how we will act and react in the situation. CBT also recognizes that the way we think about ourselves, and others, influences our automatic thoughts. CBT addresses our self-doubts, our ineffective actions, and our incorrect assumptions about ourselves.
Positive psychiatry is an approach to mental health than can speak to everyone with or without a psychiatric disorder. It focuses on identifying the positive aspects of patient's lives, such as strengths, and what does the patient enjoy in life, as these often-unasked questions can help to understand the whole person and can help identify treatments in which the client will want to engage in!
