I believe counseling can be a lot of different things. Sometimes it's about keeping someone company while they're going through a hard time. Sometimes it's processing events from the past or maybe dealing with events that are happening right now. It can also be learning a new skill or different ways to cope. Together, we can decide what you need and work at your pace to address what you feel is the most important. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor in Indiana. I have been in the counseling field for 26 years. I've worked in private practice throughout that time, but have also worked in the criminal justice and community mental health settings. I work primarily with adults using cognitive therapy to help them think about struggles in their life from a different perspective. I love seeing people take back some of the power they feel they've lost to anxiety or helping them see the light at the end of the tunnel in depression or addiction. Taking the first step is one of the hardest, but things can feel better for you.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, I'll get some background information about you and you can learn a little about me and the therapy process. We'll talk about what brings you into counseling at this time and begin thinking about the goals you want to work on moving forward.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I utilize motivational interviewing, trauma informed care, solution focused and cognitive behavioral therapy primarily in therapy. I can recommend reading material, journaling, and sometimes worksheets if it helps the client understand or process better.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I think one of my strengths is showing a client I'm committed to help them through tough times, that they aren't alone and won't be left without help. I feel especially able to help those with anxiety and know how much it can interfere with someone's ability to experience life.
