As a mother I am deeply passionate about improving maternal mental health. I know that the struggles of pregnancy, the postpartum period, and parenthood are unique and complex. You may be feeling alone or isolated because often others in your life don’t realize all of the changes that you are facing. These changes may be hormonal, physical, emotional, the role in your family, or other relationships. You may be feeling pressures or expectations from family or pressures and expectations from society. As you embark on this transformative experience, whether in becoming a parent or adding to your family, it may be time to heal old wounds and rediscover joy. I focus on deep listening, guiding exploration to understand your unique situation and find the path for healing. We then work together to identify functional skills to help you navigate the parenthood journey with as much joy and ease as possible. I am a PMH-C (perinatal mental health provider) certified by Postpartum Support International in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. I am also trained in DBT (dialetic behavior therapy), mindfulness, and LGBTQA+ affirming therapy. I love seeing my clients reconnect with their joy in parenthood and in their life as an individual. In therapy, I balance the internal work of addressing thought patterns, self talk, and emotional processing with the external work of setting boundaries, improving communication in relationships, and decision making skills.
My clients feel that their unique experience is heard and understood. We will explore the many factors that have brought you to therapy. From there we set a focus for the our therapy relationship and begin the process of healing. You will start to see a way through whatever you are struggling with after the first session.
I use emotional processing and somatic processing skills. These skills often help clients find more clarity internally by teaching you how to move through emotions rather than feeling ruled by them. I use DBT skills to help to manage overwhelming situations with ease and to improve relational communication. I use mindfulness skills to help my client learn about themselves and the way their mind works to improve decision making, increase healthy self talk, and increase a sense of peace.
My strength is in helping people heal from birth trauma, pregnancy/postpartum depression and anxiety. Having a child brings up so much from the past for a lot of people. I love seeing my clients learn about themselves in this process and heal from long term pain they've struggled with.
