I don't just like people, I appreciate people. I truly appreciate those who have suffered traumatic events and/or critical incidents (or years of them) and keep going. Walking alongside those who are hurting is my life focus. Physical pain and emotional pain look the same in the brain! I am a certified trauma therapist and certified child and adolescent trauma therapist. I also hold certifications in both somatic therapy and child and adolescent grief. I am a trained and experienced Brainspotter. If you like talk therapy we can do that. If you have tried talk therapy and feel the need to go deeper then "bottom-up processing" may be the answer for you; that is what trauma therapy is all about. You don't have to tell me your story unless you want to, we can work with silence. I am a retired law enforcement officer and have extensive experience working with people in crisis and chaotic situations. Though I never served in the military myself, my family has a very deep military history and there are many parallels between the careers. It is very important for military and first responders, including dispatchers and emergency room personnel, to have a support system in place BEFORE the 'numbness' sets in. It would be my honor to be a part of your support system. I may not wear the same size, but I have probably taken some steps in your shoes.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Some appointment times are bi-weekly. Any questions email me at CherylH@code3therapy.com. Our first session we will get to know each other, you get to decide if we are a fit, and we will discuss your concerns and goals. We will check the calendar and see if I can provide a consistent weekly or bi-weekly appointment for you either in person or virtually.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths are helping you identify your strengths, build upon them, and remind you how valuable you are! You are here for a reason! I will work hard to help you identify why you're here or remember why if you have lost your focus. As I have said before, I am a trauma-focused therapist and that includes working with complex childhood trauma that rears its head in adulthood. When it feels like the ocean waves are not washing gently ashore anymore, but a tsunami that won't stop has hit you, come see me. I will throw you a life preserver and hold on with you until we get to a safe shore again!

My treatment methods

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

I fully engage Client's and am interested in their experiences, feelings, what has worked and not worked in the past. I am not a statue just waiting for you to talk to me, I will engage you and truly want to get to know you and the journey you are on.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Education and understanding of your world views will help you understand your actions and behaviors and how to change and/or regulate them.

Trauma Informed Care

I am a certified trauma therapist with a lot of experience and training with first responders, childhood trauma and abuse, and am willing to walk alongside you as you traverse the difficulties of traumatic experiences or complex trauma (trauma with no escape). This includes vicarious trauma, often experienced by first responders and medical personnel.
