I am a licensed psychologist in Ohio and a graduate of the University of Toledo. I have been serving children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families for over 35 years in a variety of settings. I maintain a part-time outpatient therapy practice while helping to lead a mental health agency in Virginia (where I live). Originally from Toledo, Ohio, I hope to serve clients who are in Toledo and/or the surrounding area. While my practice will be primarily via Telehealth, serving clients from the Toledo area will allow me to occasionally conduct in-person sessions. I love to help clients have a more compassionate understanding of themselves and others, heal through difficult circumstances, improve relationships, and achieve desired changes in their lives.
In our first session, we will review the nuts and bolts of the therapy process, discuss your current challenges, and identify your hopes for our work together. I will also answer any questions you may have about me and my approach to therapy. This will help us to get to know one another, determine if I am the best fit for your needs, and begin to plan our work together.
I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families for over 35 years in a variety of settings. My clients say that they feel seen and understood by me. They describe me as relatable, deeply caring, honest, and helpful. I am also playful and have a sense of humor. I am often able to help people to feel safe enough to explore their feelings and experiences in a healing way.
I have trained and practiced in attachment-focused therapies for many years. Often employed with parent-child relationships, attachment-focused work is useful with individuals of all ages. I aim to provide a secure base from which clients can safely explore and understand their attachment styles while co-creating compassionate and coherent narratives of their experiences of themselves and others and improving their emotional regulation.
I have been training in and treating clients with significant traumas for over 30 years. I help clients to understanding and heal from the impact of traumas such as abuse, neglect, loss, and domestic violence through the safety of a therapeutic environment.
I have received extensive training and supervision in structural family therapy for over 30 years. I use this experience to help individuals and families to notice, name, and change unwanted family relational patterns and replace them with healthier ways of relating with and experiencing one another.
