Hi, I’m Rachel Lorenzo-Ramirez, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC-D, NCC, PMH-C) serving clients virtually in NY, NJ, and MA. I specialize in supporting women navigating anxiety, self-doubt, perfectionism, and the transitions of motherhood. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in evidence-based practices like CBT and EMDR. Above all, I strive to create a safe, judgment-free space where you can feel seen, supported, and empowered to reconnect with your true self. Driven by a profound curiosity about life’s complexities, I earned a bachelor’s degree in Deviant Behavior and Social Control, followed by a graduate degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. John’s University. I have specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Perinatal Mental Health, equipping me to support a diverse range of client needs. With over a decade of counseling experience in various settings—including inpatient mental health hospitals, higher education, and community counseling centers—I have developed a warm and accepting approach. My goal is to help clients understand their challenges and implement lasting solutions for positive change, empowering them to embrace their journeys with confidence and resilience.
In our first session, we’ll take time to get to know each other and talk about what brings you to therapy. I’ll ask questions to better understand your story, your current challenges, and what you’d like to work on. Together, we’ll begin identifying your goals and outline a plan for moving forward. My priority is to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and understood from the very beginning.
My greatest strengths are creating a warm, supportive space and using evidence-based methods like CBT and EMDR to help clients process challenges, build confidence, and make lasting changes. Clients often share that they feel truly seen, understood, and empowered in our work together.
My ideal clients are women who feel stuck in cycles of overthinking, self-doubt, or perfectionism. Many are navigating the unique pressures of motherhood, balancing cultural and family expectations, or coping with the emotional weight of anxiety, depression, or past trauma. They are looking for a safe space to process their experiences, build confidence, and reconnect with themselves. Whether you’re adjusting to the challenges of pregnancy or postpartum, managing stress in your personal or professional life, or working to heal old wounds, I help you feel less alone and more equipped to move forward with clarity and self-compassion.
I have specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a powerful approach for addressing trauma, anxiety, and distressing memories. EMDR helps process and reframe past experiences that may feel “stuck,” allowing clients to reduce emotional intensity and regain a sense of balance. In my practice, I use EMDR to gently guide clients through distressing memories while incorporating bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements or tapping. This process helps the brain reprocess difficult events in a safe, supportive environment. I integrate EMDR into therapy when clients are ready, tailoring the approach to their unique needs and pace. My goal is to help clients reduce the grip of painful memories, build resilience, and foster healing and empowerment.
I have extensive experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), an evidence-based approach that focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I have successfully used CBT to help clients navigate anxiety, depression, perfectionism, and life transitions by identifying and challenging unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress. In my practice, CBT provides a structured yet flexible framework. Together, we explore how your thoughts influence your emotions and actions, and I guide you in developing healthier ways of thinking. Sessions often include practical tools, such as reframing negative thoughts, problem-solving strategies, and relaxation techniques, which you can apply in daily life. My goal is to empower you to take control of your mental well-being, reduce distress, and create meaningful, lasting change.
I have extensive experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), a highly effective approach for helping individuals regulate emotions, manage stress, and improve relationships. DBT emphasizes skill-building in four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. I use DBT principles to support clients who struggle with overwhelming emotions, impulsivity, or difficulty navigating relationships. In my practice, I tailor DBT techniques to meet each client’s unique needs. For example, I may guide clients in learning mindfulness practices to stay present, teach coping strategies for managing intense emotions, or help improve communication skills to strengthen relationships. By integrating DBT with other therapeutic approaches, I aim to create a supportive environment where clients feel empowered to build a balanced and fulfilling life.
