I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology through the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University. I am licensed as a psychologist in California and Wyoming. I have over seven years of experience working in urban and rural environments, outpatient and inpatient clinics, a VA Medical Center, as well as other multidisciplinary settings. This has helped me understand how to conceptualize mental health concerns within the biopsychosocial model.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, I want to start getting to know your needs, see if there is a connection and make sure it’s a good fit for us both. We’ll also discuss what compelled you to seek treatment and what you want to get out of therapy. I’ll also share more about my approach and what you can expect during treatment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As your therapist, I will provide a warm, gentle, and compassionate perspective. Growing up as a multiracial person (Mexican and White), I learned to recognize and appreciate the role of culture in one’s development and well-being. I strive to remain culturally sensitive to how the larger cultural context may influence your experience of distress.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I find great meaning in helping patients get unstuck and recover from traumatic experiences. My patients are ready and willing to explore their painful emotions and experiences, while applying effective and adaptive coping strategies.

My treatment methods

Integrative

To tailor treatment to your needs, I draw upon a variety of modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and other mindfulness-based approaches.

Trauma Informed Care

In my clinical work, this is a foundational principle that influences each encounter. Using a strength-based and holistic approach, I seek to understand the whole person, while emphasizing physical, psychological, and emotional safety. My goal is for you to feel capable of positively influencing your life and overall well-being.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

A therapeutic relationship based on authenticity, empathy and unconditional positive regard is essential to create an environment for healing. Using this approach allows me to meet you where you’re at and for you to feel empowered in the process. We are a team in your treatment.
