I’m Lindsay MacMaster PsyD, a licensed Clinical Psychologist in the San Diego area. When you work with me, I create a setting that is warm and compassionate, a space that allows you to best connect with what is bothering you. Counseling helps you learn how to become your best self. Therapy can support you as you lean into life’s most difficult challenges rather than shy away from them.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session together we will work on understanding the bigger picture of what brought you to start therapy, get your baseline of symptoms and create some goals so we can identify what you want to focus on.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strengths are helping clients build coping skills, awareness and confidence through their therapy so they feel more able to take on the challenges in their life moving forward. I find that when children have a supportive space to explore their emotions they are able to take the lead in problem-solving and experience positive self-esteem. When working with adults we focus often on awareness and healthy coping skills so they become better able to approach parenting challenges, life stressors and have successful relationships.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

With a specialty in play therapy for children, individual therapy, family therapy, and connective parenting approaches, I make sure your counseling session is grounded in scientific research but is still tailored to your needs and goals.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize a CBT approach often when trying to shift some thought patterns that are not keeping individuals stuck in a thought pattern that is not serving them in their day to day.

Psychodynamic

Psychodynamic approach allows us to dive into reflecting on past experiences and building on awareness for how those experiences shape current perspectives, attachment patterns and relationships.

Child Parent Psychotherapy

Supporting the child and parent relationship is a one of the most important things that helps set the foundation for years to come and I work on helping build empathy, practice validation and model healthy communication for parents and children to have a thriving connection.
