My name is Alexis (or Lexie), I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of California. I received my master's in couples and family therapy from Alliant International University in San Diego. I have been working as a mental health professional since 2016 in a non-profit setting with individuals from all walks of life throughout their lifespan.
In our first session together, I like to gather information on your history and experiences that have led you to this point. Don't worry - we don't have to unpack everything during our first meeting, but I do like to get a sense of who you are and what experiences brought you to therapy!
I have both personal and professional experience with therapy which helps me remain humble and human! I use humor (when appropriate) and keep it real with clients.
Much of my experience conducting therapy includes providing individual and family therapy, in-office and online, in an outpatient setting. I have worked with folks experiencing depression, anxiety, relationship and parenting issues, teen concerns, and a wide range of challenges including grief/loss, insomnia, trauma, abuse, behavioral issues, as well as personal growth, adjustment issues, and crisis. I am trained and competent in working with folks who have experienced homelessness, as well as chronic or severe trauma.
I have used DBT techniques and skills both professionally and within my personal life. While this is not a "one size fits all" modality, I do find that there are aspects of the theory that can be leveraged by everyone!
I believe that each individual I work with has unique strengths and solutions that they bring to therapy and my role is to assist them in bringing those forward.
