My name is Tanisha Ragland, DNP, PMHNP-BC, and I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science and have spent more than 15 years caring for patients from all walks of life. I understand that reaching out for mental health support can feel overwhelming, and I want you to know that you don't have to navigate it alone. My goal is to create a warm, supportive space where you can feel comfortable being yourself, without fear of judgment. My approach blends clinical expertise with authenticity, compassion, and a touch of humor when the moment calls for it, because I believe healing shouldn't have to happen in a cold or sterile setting. Together, we'll build a treatment plan that helps you strengthen resilience, find clarity, and move toward lasting emotional wellness.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session is really just a conversation. There's no script you need to follow and nothing you need to prepare. Mostly, I want to get to know you, what brought you here, what's been weighing on you, and what you're hoping to feel or do differently. We'll talk through your history, your current symptoms, and any past experiences with therapy or medication, so I can understand the full picture rather than a single snapshot. I'll ask questions, but you're always in control of how much you share and when. If something feels too tender to get into on day one, that's completely okay. By the end, we'll start shaping a plan together, whether that involves medication, referrals, lifestyle support, or simply a clear next step. You'll leave knowing where we're headed and why. My hope is that you walk out feeling a little more understood than when you walked in, and confident that you're not carrying any of this alone.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What I bring most is range. With more than 15 years of practice, I've sat with people through nearly every season of life, from the first time someone names what they're feeling out loud to the long, quiet work of staying well. That experience means I can meet you where you are rather than fitting you into a formula. As a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I can offer both medication management and genuine therapeutic conversation, so your care doesn't get split across people who never talk to each other. You get one provider who sees the whole picture and adjusts as your needs change. But what I think clients feel most is the tone. I take the clinical work seriously without taking myself too seriously. I listen closely, I'm honest with you, and I make room for warmth and even laughter, because being a patient shouldn't mean leaving your personality at the door. My goal is simple: to give you care that's both excellent and human.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I help clients identify and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to their difficulties. By focusing on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions, CBT equips clients with practical skills to manage challenges, promote healthier coping strategies, and ultimately improve their overall well-being.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP)

In suicide prevention using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I work with clients to identify and challenge negative thought patterns and beliefs that contribute to suicidal ideation. We focus on developing coping strategies to manage distressing emotions, problem-solving skills to address life stressors, and building a support network. By fostering resilience and promoting healthier ways of thinking and coping, CBT helps clients reduce suicidal thoughts and behaviors while enhancing their overall well-being and safety.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)

In utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for insomnia, we address the underlying thoughts and behaviors contributing to sleep difficulties. Through techniques such as sleep hygiene education, relaxation training, and cognitive restructuring, we work to modify negative sleep-related beliefs and establish healthier sleep habits. By targeting both the psychological and behavioral aspects of insomnia, CBT aims to improve sleep quality and duration, ultimately restoring a more restful and refreshing sleep pattern.

Trauma-Focused CBT

In Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), I help clients understand and process traumatic experiences in a safe and structured manner. Through a combination of psychoeducation, relaxation techniques, and cognitive restructuring, we address the impact of trauma on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. TF-CBT also incorporates elements of exposure therapy to gradually confront and desensitize distressing memories and sensations. By providing a supportive environment and teaching effective coping skills, TF-CBT aims to alleviate symptoms of trauma and promote healing and resilience.

Tanisha was great understanding my background and history first before discussing any medication. This is the care that you look for when seeing a new doctor for the first time.
