As a human, I understand that psychotherapy is non-judgmental and a safe environment that provides support and understanding in the care of the patient. It is understandable that at times is not easy to accept that help is needed. But when the first step this taken, you are one step closer towards positive change. Symptoms such as anxiety often take the lead when going through significant life changes, whether it is a new job, moving into a different stage of life, or a new relationship. Together, we will work on strategies that allow you to address the root causes of your difficulties and build meaningful connections. As a person it brings me great pleasure to help others. My focus is to help you through this difficult path. I would love to help you address life issues dealing with your emotions and behaviors. In therapy, I like to create an atmosphere of trust and respect by practicing empathy in a deep sense of acceptance and understanding. Providing you with unique and specific skills, while exploring your own dreams, hopes and values. We can work together towards the process of healing, moving forward and strengthening your new self.
In our first session together, I will introduce myself, inform you of the expectations of therapy. We will discuss any concerns you may have about therapy. Then we will dive into the challenges you have been facing and obtain some information about your personal background, family history, and medical details to understand you better, in order to tailor a plan specifically for you. Some questions may feel overly general, while others may feel somewhat invasive or private. Keep in mind that you don’t need to divulge anything that makes you feel uncomfortable, but your answers will help me best support you. Then we will explore what would be a comfortable schedule for meeting the following sessions. Ideally, you should leave your first session feeling somewhat inspired and challenged. However, it is also common to experience mixed emotions after your first session with any therapist. It is important to address so they do not hinder your progress in therapy. Therapy is a process, and you can’t expect to have everything figured out after just one session. Furthermore, it’s also a relationship. Trusting and feeling safe with your selected therapist takes time–this is known as “building rapport.” Building good rapport is one of the most essential predictors in determining a client’s treatment success. While rapport often happens over several sessions, you don’t owe your therapist your time. If you strongly feel like I or your selected therapist might not be a good fit, it’s perfectly reasonable to switch providers. Therapy is for YOU. It is very important you feel comfortable. Even if you feel uncertain or afraid, therapy can be a great, valuable investment for your emotional well-being and functioning. Remember that the first session will mostly focus on initial paperwork and introductions, which can help you ease into the process. Most people find their anxieties about therapy dissipate after the first few sessions, and once you really dive into the work, you’ll feel incredibly PROUD of yourself for taking that first step!
It is very important for me to be genuine and authentic with every patient. I believe there are certain skill and traits a good therapist should present with. Which I believe a personally carry some of these including; being caring, being knowledgeable and flexible in world views and carry a strong understanding of multicultural issues. As well as being a good listener, which includes the ability to listen “between the lines,” so to speak, for those things that aren’t being said. As well as listening without judgment. I also believe in working along with patients at their own pace.
My approach to treatment is client centered and collaborative. I try to break complex things down into palatable and digestible material and work with you on your personal goals, reach and express new potential. One of the most profound things that I have learned while being a therapist, is that we are a lot more similar than we believe. We all struggle in different capacities and we can learn, grow, and help one another.
I believe therapy is about treating individuals on their personal energetic level. I want you to feel as though you can heal from the inside and be able to extend that out to others. I am very dedicated on helping others through their difficult path.
