Hello! I am a licensed professional counselor with 11+ years experience in mental health counseling and over 20 years experience in the mental health field. I believe in a whole person approach to address life's challenges. I believe that when we get to know ourselves and get to know our needs, we can move forward in a healthy, happy way, building confidence in ourselves and building relationships that are mutually rewarding. I believe you are the expert of your life story. I am here to help you tune into that story and to create the future that you desire. I use a person-centered approach to determine the best treatment options to help you along your way and draw from an integrated approach to meet your unique needs. I am honored to be part of your life journey.
In our first session, I like to get to know you - who you are, how you spend your time, what your health habits are like, who is important to you in your daily life (including furry friends), and what you would like to get out of the therapy process. From there we can determine the best steps forward and begin with some initial skill building to help you jumpstart into making positive changes in your life.
I am open and honest in session, without being harsh. I listen to you and relate and can help you to see the strengths you have that you might have forgotten or pushed aside. I hold the candle of hope for you until you can pick it back up again for yourself. I always have your wellbeing in mind and am here for you - to help you grow - both through teaching you to be compassionate with yourself and through challenging you when needed. I have learned many skills that are helpful in day to day functioning and in changing how we interact with the world to create healthier, happier connections in life.
Kelly Gulat offers therapy covered by Kaiser Permanente - Medicaid and UnitedHealthcare/Optum - Medicaid in Virginia.
I have extensive experience with CBT methods and use this approach primarily to treat anxiety and depression.
I have extensive experience using CPT to treat trauma/PTSD. This approach is more structured and will have homework assignments to help process your beliefs and help you reconnect with yourself and the world around you.
I have extensive experience using DBT skills to help with distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and getting your needs met in a healthy manner instead of repeating cycles of habits that are not sustainable for long term healing.
I use a person-centered approach to connect with you and tailor treatment to your specific needs. We also will work with tapping into your personal strengths and understanding your needs to create self-compassion and healthy communication with others.
I use an integrative approach to address your needs from a whole-person perspective to include physical health, the mind, emotions, social aspects, spirituality, and other aspects of life. We are whole people and as such need a whole person approach.
