Hello, my name is Tiffany Fernandes, and I am a licensed clinical social worker specializing in providing evidence-based therapy approaches to help individuals overcome anxiety, depression, and develop effective coping skills. My experience in the field includes working as a counselor in a residential treatment program, and as a licensed therapist and clinical coordinator in an outpatient mental health treatment center. With a compassionate and client-centered approach, I integrate both Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) techniques to empower individuals on their journey towards mental wellness.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the first therapy session with me, clients can expect a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where they can feel safe to share their concerns and experiences. Here is what clients can anticipate: 1. Introduction and Connection: I'll start by introducing myself and providing an overview of the therapy process. We'll take some time to get to know each other and establish rapport, which is essential for building trust and comfort in the therapeutic relationship. 2. Assessment and Goal Setting: I'll conduct an initial assessment to understand the client's current struggles, strengths, and goals for therapy. We'll discuss what brings them to therapy, their past experiences, and what they hope to achieve through our work together. 3. Collaborative Approach: Therapy is a collaborative process, so I'll invite clients to actively participate in setting the direction and goals for their treatment. Together, we'll identify specific areas of focus and develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to their needs and preferences. 4. Exploration and Reflection: Clients will have the opportunity to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a supportive and empathetic space. I'll listen attentively and ask reflective questions to help client's gain clarity and understanding. 5. Education: I'll provide psychoeducation about anxiety, depression, or other relevant concerns, as well as an overview of the DBT and CBT techniques we may use in therapy. 6. Empowerment and Hope: Throughout the session, I'll convey a sense of hope and optimism, emphasizing that change in possible and achievable. Clients will leave the session feeling validated, supported, and empowered to take the necessary steps towards healing and growth. Overall the first session with me is an opportunity for clients to begin their therapeutic journey with a sense of hope, understanding, and direction. They can expect to feel heard, respected, and valued as we work together towards their goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe in the power of therapy to facilitate positive change and growth. By integrating DBT and CBT approaches, I aim to empower individuals to build resilience, enhance self-awareness, and develop practical strategies to navigate life's challenges with confidence and clarity.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

My experience utilizing a DBT framework has been both with individuals and in a group therapy setting. My work with group therapy has been centered in providing education and skills coaching on interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness strategies. My work with individuals has been in helping clients to gain control over their emotions and behaviors in order to build a life worth living.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

In my work with individuals in therapy, the use of CBT has been effective with challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors that may be contributing to distress in their life. Challenging these unhelpful thought patterns can be highly effective for coping with and decreasing anxiety and depression as well as improving overall wellbeing.
