HI! I'm Donna. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, (LPC) practicing in New Jersey. I received my master's degree at Temple University and have been working in behavioral health settings since 1996. I worked in a medical facility treating in-patient and out-patient clients, an adolescent group home and an elementary school as the school counselor. I help children through young adults experiencing issues at home, in school, at college and those struggling with early adulthood.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, we get to know each other. I want you to feel comfortable talking to me so I can earn your trust. We will discuss specific challenges that you are having, and we will set initial goals. This will allow me to make a treatment plan that you are comfortable with. We will work through the plan together in future sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

With over 30 years of experience in the field, I am warm, understanding and non-judgmental. I will help you do the work to discuss what is causing you discomfort and together, we will make a plan to change it for the better.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

One of my favorite quotes is, "Nothing great is ever achieved without much endurance." In life, we go through things. Some are good and some are not so good. You made it this far, so that means you have something to work on and you are willing to see if a therapist can help. I have worked with people of all ages, genders, religions, races and sexual orientations. No two people are the same and all people deserve to be seen as the individual whom they are. Therapy may not always be easy, but I will treat you with respect and honesty. This is your platform. I will go at your pace so that you are comfortable, but I will challenge you. Together, we will set a plan and work towards achieving your goals. Therapy can be enlightening, scary, impactful and fulfilling. My approach to therapy is client-centered, strength based, and solution focused. If you are ready, I am ready to help.

My treatment methods

Strength-Based

I have been using Strength-Based therapy in my practice for years with children, adolescents and adults. It helps clients focus on the positive. They learn to use their own strengths and internal resources to empower themselves. This method is particularly helpful to clients seeking help with relationships, decision making and future plans.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is used to bring focus to how the brain triggers your body and triggers behavior. CBT starts with your thoughts and how that affects the way you feel and act. This method is helpful to clients experiencing anxiety, depression, lack of impulse control and anger. I have used a modified and age-appropriate method with younger clients who have seen the benefits of CBT.

Supportive

Sometimes clients just want someone to talk to. They are not always looking for answers but need to vent to a non-threatening person. This method of treatment is client guided and provides support when needed and a safe place to bounce ideas off a trained therapist. Role play and other treatment modalities can be used if the client feels it will benefit them.
