I am Anetria Thompson-Hardeman, M.A., LPC, and a Certified Grief Educator with over two decades of experience helping individuals navigate life's challenges. I specialize in providing culturally sensitive care to marginalized communities, particularly Black women, as they work through grief, stress, and transitions, including infertility and perimenopause. I also enjoy working with members of the BIPOC community, offering compassionate support tailored to their unique experiences. My goal is to create a sacred and secure space for clients to connect, heal, and rise, empowering them to build resilience and reclaim their narrative. I also love working with young adults who are striving to find balance in between personal identity and career identity and interests.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, clients can expect a warm, welcoming, and nonjudgmental environment where they feel safe to share their story. We will start by discussing what brought you to therapy and what you hope to gain from our work together. This is a space for you to express your thoughts, feelings, and concerns openly, without fear of judgment. I will ask questions to learn more about your background, current challenges, and goals for therapy. This helps me gain a better understanding of your unique experiences and how I can best support you. If there are specific areas you’re struggling with, we’ll start exploring those, but we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Together, we’ll begin to develop a roadmap for your therapy journey. This might include identifying key areas to focus on, setting initial goals, or discussing tools and strategies you can start using right away. The first session is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about my approach and how I work, so you feel confident that this is a good fit for your needs. Most importantly, my goal in the first session is to create a safe and collaborative space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered to take the first steps toward healing and growth.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strength as a provider is that I can relate to you and validate your story. You are not alone in the pain and distress that you have gone through and I am able to walk alongside you through difficult times as well as times of reflection and growth. I provide a safe and warm space for you to address harmful times in your life but develop solutions to help you move forward. I am your cheerleader, advocate, listener, normalizer, and mental health expert.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am best positioned to serve individuals seeking a safe and affirming space to address grief, stress, trauma, and life transitions. My ideal clients are Black women and members of the BIPOC community who are navigating challenges such as infertility, perimenopause, career stress, and cultural identity issues. I also love working with young adults, particularly those in college or transitioning into the workforce after graduation, as they process past traumas, manage life changes, and discover their unique identities. For many young adults, this period of life is filled with uncertainty, exploration, and immense pressure. Whether you are learning to balance academic responsibilities, adjusting to the demands of a new career, or navigating the complexities of personal relationships, I am here to help you uncover your strengths and chart a path toward confidence and fulfillment. Together, we can process past experiences, address unresolved trauma, and equip you with the tools to thrive in this new phase of life. For my clients across all life stages, I bring a culturally sensitive approach, recognizing how societal and cultural factors uniquely shape our experiences. I offer a compassionate, nonjudgmental space to help you work through difficult emotions, explore your identity, and build resilience. My approach is tailored to your individual needs, helping you uncover the wisdom and strength already within you while supporting you in creating a life that aligns with your values and goals. Whether you are processing grief, navigating a significant transition, or striving for self-discovery, I am here to walk with you on your journey toward healing and empowerment. My practice is rooted in the belief that every individual’s story is valid and deserves to be heard. Let’s work together to create a life where you feel more connected, more grounded, and more in control of your narrative.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT can be life-changing. I believe that it can help you stop holding yourself hostage from guilt, shame, and other negative feelings that are non-beneficial. DBT enables you to address your life in mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal relationships.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is the basis of our work together. It is a method that encourages you to become more aware of your thoughts, especially the irrational ones, and make the necessary modifications to replace them with more positive ones.
