I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) for over 20 years (#35659). I focus on coping skills (such as relaxation and mindfulness) and I also tend to take a systems approach, which means I take into account how each client is impacted by their own world (family, friends, school/work). But most importantly, my main job is to be an understanding listener so that my clients feel comfortable talking about themselves and their feelings.
In our first session together, we will have a conversation about what brings you to therapy and you can expect questions from me about your personal history. We will collaborate on some goals for therapy and go from there!
I have worked with a wide variety of people with very different stories over the years. I enjoy getting to know each person individually and find out how to help them recognize their strengths at the same time they discover some new coping skills.
Most of my experience as a therapist is with teens and adults who are struggling with anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, or possibly feeling unsupported or disconnected from friends and family. If you are feeling overwhelmed and having difficulty managing on your own, I can help you get back on track.
I've found that using CBT can be helpful when working with people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief symptoms. Identifying cognitive distortions and triggers to symptoms is the first step in learning to manage distressing thoughts and feelings.
Interpersonal Therapy is a method I utilize in treatment when clients are experiencing grief and loss, interpersonal disputes, or life transitions. It can be very effective in building assertive communication skills and increasing one's social support.
I have been utilizing TFCBT for over 10 years with clients who have experienced trauma. This treatment method helps clients to manage trauma symptoms by building new coping skills and processing their experience.
