Hi! I am a clinical social worker with extensive training in trauma, anxiety, personality disorders, ADHD, and adult autism. I have been seeing clients since 2018. I graduated with my master's degree in clinical social work from UT Arlington, and I am currently working on my doctorate in advanced neuroscience informed clinical social work. I like to blend the most up to date neuroscience in an integrated therapy approach that is as unique as my clients are. I have a special interest in adults who have ADHD and/or autism, they have often struggled to find a therapist that is the right fit for them. Its incredibly important to me to provide a safe place for my clients to explore who they are in the most authentic way possible. This is key to not only learning how to manage emotional storms in the moment but also helping my clients to learn and grow far beyond their time with me.
In a first session I collaborate with my new client on what they most want to work on, and we explore that topic. Before the end of the first session I will reflect to the client the direction I feel we will likely go in for sessions and I seek feedback from the client on what their treatment plan will look like. I establish that the client is the expert on their life, and I am there as a collaborator to help them rise to success.
I am open, collaborative, transparent, and highly communicative. I aim to challenge myself as a professional and I believe that I can only help clients as far as I have been able to grow myself. I bring lived experience into the therapeutic relationship as a real person. I educate my clients. I want them to be empowered through a deeper understanding of themselves as well as a full toolbox of effective strategies that match who they are.
I love working with people who want to learn about themselves and explore how to be their selves in the world. Many have struggled with anxiety or depression. Nearly all have worked on asserting healthy boundaries with others. Most have been emotionally sensitive, rejection sensitive, and/or struggled with connecting to our emotions. I have seen amazing growth for clients who first come to sessions struggling with emotional chaos in their life as well as those who have loved ones struggling with serious emotional health concerns. Clients who have loved ones who struggle with these issues too are impacted quite often and also benefit from learning coping skills and empowering education about managing emotions.
I have a lot of experience in and a deep understanding of how our attachment style is inherited by our early life experiences. I have been able to help many clients be able to move towards a healthy attachment style which can positively impact all of our relationships and how we feel in connection with others.
DBT is life saving. DBT can also help us to manage emotional storms when we feel like life is out of control. I have been using DBT skills personally for over 20 years and teaching/using this method with clients for over 5 years. I am comfortable with adapting DBT skills to neurodivergence, stress management, and more with a trauma informed approach.
Blending multiple approaches to meet the unique needs of each client is foundational for clinical social workers. I bring advanced understanding of multiple approaches and ways to blend them through my doctoral training.
Parts work has been life changing for me. The understanding of multiplicity of mind and compassionate use of self in the therapy space is empowering for clients.
I am deeply aware of the body's response to trauma and how we need to work on multiple levels to integrate experiences and come back to a place of accessing our internal peace.
