I take a straightforward approach, focused on addressing unhelpful patterns of behavior, emotion, and thinking. I absolutely see the value in humor and always being my true self with people. I aim to help my people develop and utilize the skills we learn in everyday life to identify, address, and improve the symptoms or difficulties they're experiencing. I come from a fairly atypical background and utilize it in my practice to respect my peoples' cultural and social experiences and incorporate and understanding of them directly into their care. I earned my Master of Science in Counseling Psychology as well as a Master of Education from Carlow University both in 2015. I have 14 years experience in the field and have practiced teletherapy since 2018. I've worked with people in a broad range of settings addressing a broad range of concerns including but not limited to: homelessness, LGBTQI+, medical comorbidities, trauma, legal systems, prison re-entry, and relationship and family issues to name a few.
I want to understand the person I'm sitting with, not just what they're carrying. I seek to get to know you and the various roles you play in your life, and how your needs exist across those roles not just one of them. We'll go through some initial questions about what you're experiencing and get to establishing goals for our work together.
My lived experiences give insight I never wanted yet am forever thankful for; the ability to actually empathize with people is invaluable. I am an atypical provider, which works well to allow people who might not feel comfortable in traditional settings find a place to be themselves and not be fed scientific jargon and big words over and over. We're here to do the work, that doesn't take big words or power differentials. It takes respect.
I mainly work with adults, and all I generally ask is that the people I work with are motivated and willing to try.
A good general use approach to therapy to allow people to approach topics and see not just what is wrong, but directly draw lines to what we can actually do with it.
Always ensure people are aware of everything that's going on, no mystical secrets or anything hidden
I meet people where they are and accept them for who they are. Respect is absolutely essential.
Widely utilized tool in addressing anxious behaviors that can be highly effective and not just help with symptoms but teach people more about themselves as we go.
