Hello, I am a licensed counselor in Florida and Virginia and over the last two decades, I have worked with individuals and couples with issues ranging from depression, anxiety, relationship problems, trauma and addiction. As you courageously take this initial step to seek out more fulfilling to live your life, I am here to offer support and help you feel empowered. I look forward to meeting you in our first session.
After initial introductions, a client can expect a collaborative approach in identifying their most important concerns to focus on. This will also involve an initial building of rapport through offering respect, sensitivity and compassion. Starting therapy can be empowering, confusing and scary all at once so it is important to validate the client's concerns and later develop treatment goals as a path to feeling better. My approach combines different therapies but I work to tailor a plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I think my greatest strength is in building an alliance with the client after working with adults and couples for the past twenty years, which has also involved developing a tried-and-true playbook for helping these clients identify the root cause of their challenges and creating a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress.
I really enjoy working with adult clients and couples who are motivated to make changes in their lives but may not be sure about how to go about this at the moment due past difficulties or their present circumstances. I work to validate any concerns they have about beginning therapy and then acknowledge the changes which have begun just by the client reaching out to someone in seeking out therapy.

In using ACT I have seen how viewing psychological difficulties in a different way has benefitted clients with a wide range of mental health problems. This has been with a therapy which is firmly based in empirical science, yet has a major emphasis on values, forgiveness, acceptance, compassion and living in the present moment so to assist client in accessing a more meaningful and purposeful life.
When clients are introduced to ways to treat themselves with more kindness and self-compassion, many are surprised how hard and self-critical they have been toward themselves. When they are mindful of their struggles, and they learn to respond to themselves with compassion, kindness, and support in times of difficulty, they see their lives starting to change.
In working with couples for twenty plus years, I have assisted couples in understanding the underlying reasons for their difficulties in not getting along better. By using practical approaches, I support the couple in learning the components of a healthy relationship and help couples break through barriers to achieve greater understanding, connection, and intimacy in their relationships.
In using EMDR in person as well as in a virtual counseling setting, I have witnessed clients begin to manage the emotions connected to a traumatic experience with less or minimal disruption in their daily lives. EMDR works quicker than other methods and does not require a client go through every detail of their traumatic experiences in the process.
In using The Gottman Method through the years, I have found that it is designed to support a variety of couples. I have used the method to explain the components of a health relationship through The Sound Relationship House Theory. This has included using exercises and other methods to help the couple assess the current status of their relationship. I have witnessed this method of couples counseling benefit numerous couples in helping them to better understand how to regain their emotional connection and learn how to talk more effectively in managing their conflicts.
