My name is Michelle Pereira and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Los Angeles, California, but I am working with clients statewide via telehealth. I have extensive experience in working with college students and the issues that arise around academic and career transitions. I specialize in anxiety, stress, and trauma, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Feminist Oriented Theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and holistic modalities such as crystal healing and Somatic Therapy to help my clients make progress and start feeling better. a & Hello! This is the introduction to my work as a therapist and beyond. My other identities include being a healer, an aunt, Queer, a fur mother, a lover of all the elements, a bibliophile, and a mentor. I help people access their body and intuition to create lasting change in their mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health that have been impacted by anxiety, depression, trauma, and other ordeals.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session will entail getting to know each other in order to build comfort. I will also be gathering information that gives me a picture of yourself in order to receive a therapeutic experience that is unique and personalized to you. I also welcome questions that you may have for me in order for you to feel at ease with me.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Guiding and helping people access their true Self is my calling and is solidified now from being a practicing psychotherapist for more than a decade. Currently, I also provide clinical supervision to clinical associates and interns at a local community college which is another joy of mine. I take much pleasure in helping guide and mentor individuals who will continue to empower and transform our future generations. My mission is also to destigmatize uncomfortable emotions and treat emotional pain through spiritual, somatic, and energetic practices. Other tools outside psychotherapy include the use of crystals, the Tarot, and energetic limpias. I would love to get to know you on your journey to help you find your true Self.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use Acceptance Commitment Therapy which is a modality used to be more in tune and flow with your emotions rather than resist them. Some of the steps involved in ACT is to acknowledge your struggle, attend to it, and then commit to making changes in your behavior aligned with your values.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy is very useful in dissecting the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It entails becoming familiarized with any thoughts patterns, as well, and working on modifying these in order to assist you with changing the course of your behaviors.

EMDR

I am starting on my journey with EMDR and have completed the first part of EMDR basic certification training. The idea behind EMDR is to create new neural pathways for trauma memories and their vividness and other associations to become desensitized through the use of bilateral eye movements along with the use of soothing and other emotional regulation skils.

Feminist

My relationship with feminist theory in therapy is based on understanding how societal factors affect our mental health and well-being and may focus on topics such as gender, diversity, and sexism.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I utilize dialectical behavior therapy to help you expand your tolerance of sensations and emotions that provide discomfort through mindfulness based techniques.
