I would like to help you find a new path and behaviors that will help you thrive. Chances are other’s expectations of you have either been too much or too little. You may be having difficulty helping yourself. My work involves creating a safe, supportive, non-judgmental therapeutic environment where my clients can process their experiences and explore their emotions and thoughts. I use a combination of evidence-based therapeutic approaches and personalized treatment plans to address the unique needs and goals of each individual. My focus during my psychology career has been working with people who have disabilities. I have worked in a rehabilitation hospital, nursing homes, Church based community counseling and a state rehabilitation center for persons who are blind or visually impaired. I have experience in determining the validity of testing, and in research.
In our first session I will look at your background, health, education, and current presenting problem. We will discuss tentative counseling goals and next steps.
I use evidence based techniques, primarily Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I can modifiy my methods to your needs. I like to use serial testing to determine where a client is at the beginning of therapy, to see if they have improved after a few sessions. I do only online sessions which can be Zoom, or just telephone.
My work in psychology has included: -church based counseling -teaching psychology at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels -rehabilitation clients with a variety of disabilities -persons in hospitals and nursing homes -end of life counseling -career counseling -mental health epidemiological research. I hold a no cost support group for visually impaired persons with Charles Bonnet Syndrome weekly.
I work with persons who are not able to take advantage of their home community. This may due to an access issue or a behavioral issue.
