PMHNP, 17 years of experience
Hello! I am a board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with a background in family practice (FNP) in the states of Florida, New York, and Texas. I received my master’s from South University in Savannah, Georgia, and my DNP with a postgraduate certificate in Psychiatry from University of North Florida. I have b and have been in practice for 8 years, helping adolescents with attention deficit, and young adults struggling with career stress and burnout to be able to focus, stay on task and become productive and successful.
The first session will start with an introduction to both parties and try to build good rapport between us. We will proceed to the patient’s chief complaints and expectations from the visit. We will gather as much information as possible about. We will assess the patient’s knowledge, discuss the challenges and associated risks. A personalized plan will be developed and discussed with the patient which will be reviewed every visit.
Woking with adolescents and young adults for the past 8 years gives me an understanding of the socioeconomic burden of mental illnesses on family, society and mostly the affected individuals. Therefore treatment is essential, whether it is medication, psychotherapy, or both. So in my practice, evidence-based treatment is the gold standard.
My favorite group is adolescents and young adults because my kids fall into that category. I also have the opportunity to assist the grieving patient, the chronically depressed and anxious, the one suffering from mood or eating disorder. I provide them and their family the support to cope with the stress, the hindrance and stigma associated with their illness. My goal is to help my patients improve their quality of life and be the best they can be.
Mindfulness is a non-pharmacological approach helpful in assisting patients with chronic illnesses and helps them cope with chronic problems such as stress, anxiety, depression, pain, etc. training in formal mindfulness meditation techniques involving simple stretches and postures. Patients are trained in mindfulness meditation techniques involving simple stretches and postures.
The patient and family are educated on illnesses, disease processes, treatment, medication, and coping mechanisms for a better overall outcome.
For patients with emotional and mental health problems such as depression, anxiety, personal stress, relationship problems, and self-esteem, we use Solution Focused Therapy (SFBT) to help patients reach their goals.
