Hi! I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor from Pensacola, FL. I received my Master of Arts degree in Psychology, Counseling concentration from the University of West Florida. I have certification in trauma informed therapy and specialization in perinatal mental health. I have specialized training and experience working with military service members and families in both civilian community settings and embedded on installations.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we will briefly introduce and discuss the importance of confidentiality and collaboration in the therapy process. After this, we will dive into your specific concerns so that we can begin identifying important tools to help you reach your identified goals. I will provide you feedback on my clinical impressions and recommended treatments, while soliciting your feedback to collaboratively decide what the next steps will be.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I like to think that my ability to masterfully blend evidence based care with empathy and intuition is what makes my approach unique. Always being a curious observer of the human experience, confident in my knowledge but never unwilling to learn new things, allows me to be flexible and collaborative rather than robotic and distant as we explore your specific needs. As Carl Jung once said, "Know all the theories, master all the techniques, but as you touch a human soul be just another human soul."

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based approach that is the foundation for modern therapy, allowing clients a chance to explore how thoughts impact feelings and feelings impact behaviors. I utilize this approach as a foundation but do not adhere to a strict CBT model that does not allow flexibility to incorporate other treatment modalities that may benefit the individual. Therapy is not a one size fits all so CBT can be artfully intertwined with other types of treatment to provide the best outcomes for an individual when clinically indicated.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems is a conceptualization that can help individuals explore the multiplicity of human beings and provide a framework for understanding internal conflicts that may occur. IFS encourages internal reflection and meditations, that allow us to learn how to dialogue with parts of ourselves that may be in conflict. This approach can be utilizes along with other approaches by serving as the framework by which the therapeutic process can take place when clinically indicated.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is less of a treatment approach and more of a dialogue style in which the therapist encourages the motivation to change without judgment, guilt, or shame. It allows room for meeting each client where they are at in their process of change (whether just starting or maintaining). I utilize this dialog in sessions to help support clients to become unstuck in an encouraging and meaningful way. Clients are encouraged to make changes when they recognize they are ready, not when I as the therapist impose my idea of when they "should" be ready. I find this dialogue to be empowering and valid for helping clients make sustainable changes, not change that is fleeting.
