My name is Diana Gruhl, LCSW-C, and I am a very skilled, compassionate, and caring therapist (licensed in MD and CA) with years of experience providing counseling for adults and seniors. I graduated from CSULB-Long Beach in 2010 with a Master of Social Work degree and Graduate Student Honors Award. I then worked for years as an Associate Clinical Social Worker under clinical supervision in a variety of settings, and then passed the clinical exam and received my license in CA in 2019 and MD in 2020. I love to work with women (ages 21 - 65+ ideally), to help them discover and explore their feelings, uncover and transform limiting beliefs and behaviors, navigate life challenges, rediscover inner strengths and wisdom, develop effective coping skills and resources, and move toward their goals. I also help women cope with relationship issues, health conditions, depression, anxiety, panic, grief, concentration/attention issues, meaning and purpose inquiries, and self-esteem/confidence issues. In addition, I provide senior citizens support with issues of aging, caregiver issues, long-term planning, and assistance with resources. As a client-centered, collaborative therapist, I create a customized treatment plan with each client and use appropriate therapeutic methods in each session as indicated. These methods include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Emotional Freedom Technique, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic methods, Compassionate Communication, Strengths-Based, and Solution-Focused Therapies. I also use expressive arts and reminiscence therapies when appropriate. I am here to support you in your journey and look forward to working with you to meet your goals. Please call Grow to schedule an intake appointment today at 786-755-1863. I currently have limited availability for sessions, so call to schedule an appointment soon. My schedule will be opening up more soon.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our initial session together, you can expect that I will create a safe space and listen fully to your main challenges and concerns. I will ask what you are looking for in therapy and in your therapist; tell you about who I am and what services I provide; talk with you about consent for treatment, privacy policy, confidentiality and teletherapy parameters; and take a full client history and mood assessment. Then we will see if we are a good fit, and if so, we will create a treatment plan and schedule weekly therapy sessions for an indicated amount of time agreed upon, and go over the cancellation policies.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have years of experience helping women of all ages cope with emotions, challenge limiting beliefs, navigate life transitions, gain effective clinical tools, and have breakthroughs in well-being and self-esteem. I am very insightful, intuitive, caring, and collaborative with clients, as well as practical and directive when needed. I draw on a very strong social work background, with experience in a variety of settings, client diversity, and mental health challenges/diagnoses. I have very strong assessment, diagnosis, and treatment skills, and use a wide array of clinical interventions to meet the needs of each client. I am very good at helping clients navigate life challenges from the college years to senior citizen challenges and transitions. I have extensive experience working with seniors and caregivers to cope with older adult issues and help navigate resources.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have used CBT for several years in a variety of settings to help clients identify feelings, limiting beliefs, thoughts, and behaviors, understand cognitive distortions, root causes of these issues, and to reframe/transform negative thinking, focus on client's strengths, and improve their conditions. I have used CBT with clients to cope with and transform signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic, phobias, attention and concentration issues and more.

Attachment-based

I have experience providing attachment based therapy with clients. I use this method to help clients understand how their family and life history has impacted their sense of attachment in past and current relationships, educate clients about their attachment styles, improve coping skills, and help clients gain skills to become more secure and healthy in their attachment style.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

I have had years of experience providing mindfulness based counseling support for clients. I use this method to help clients increase present moment awareness; learn to use breathing to slow down, soothe, and help regulate their nervous systems; gain skills in recognizing, allowing, investigating, and nurturing their experience; and bringing more mindful awareness to daily life to create more peace and acceptance in their lives.

Motivational Interviewing

I have used MI for years with clients to help them look at stubborn, often addictive behaviors that they have had resistance to changing, to help assess reasons for change, readiness for change, and to help clients have a breakthrough in taking steps towards their goals.

Supportive

I have used compassionate supportive therapy for years, to help clients focus on increasing self esteem, self compassion, and self love through supportive counseling. I use cognitive and somatic/body based healing methods to support client self care and inner nurturing, and to challenge the "inner critic" that clients often have.
