Hello! My name is Amber Moody. I am a licensed mental health counselor. I have been practicing as a mental health counselor for the past 10 years. I graduated in 2012 with my Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Ball State University. I have vast experience of working with all different populations including people seeking help for depression, anxiety, PTSD/Trauma, LGBTQA+ issues, anger management and much more. I have experience working in a variety of fields including community based counseling, hospital, outpatient and private practice. My counseling approach is primarily based around client-centered as well as using techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), feminist and Gestalt. My clients can expect to be provided a relaxing, confidential, non-judgmental environment where they can talk about anything they need to. My clients will also be challenged, provided an open listening environment and be provided insight into their concerns. I was born and raised in Indiana where I am a wife and a Mom of three children. My hobbies include reading, video games, being in nature and cooking. I also am a music lover. As a prior musician I have grown to have an emotional connection to music and have used it as my way to get through difficult times in life. I love my job because it allows me flexibility to be a parent as well as do what I love most, help people. Nothing makes me more proud of being a counselor than seeing my client's grow and flourish. It takes a lot of strength and courage to ask for help and I am so glad that you have. Let's take this journey together!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session a client can expect to discuss their current concerns, therapy goals and gather history information. I will ask questions about any past mental health issues, family history, substance abuse, assess for risk and discuss history of trauma. I never expect my patients to want to fully open up to me in the first session. My goal is to build rapport and trust where my clients feel comfortable enough to open up about sensitive topics.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

My therapy approach includes a variety of different methods including but not limited to, client-centered approach where you can expect to be provided a supportive, open environment to process and talk about your problems. Other methods I use in therapy with my clients is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy where you will be provided insight into how thoughts, feeling and behavior are all interconnected and taught how to maintain a healthy life balance. I also empower my clients using a more feminist approach and a more direct approach using methods from the Gestalt perspective.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My particular areas of interest include working with individuals with depression, anxiety, trauma and LGBTQA+ issues. I enjoy working with a variety of ages as young as 8 all the way into late adulthood. For telehealth I prefer to only see clients ages 16+.
