Sometimes it feels like you’ve been pursuing a career and a life that’s not your own. You may feel like society doesn’t value your culture, your sensitivity, and your expression. Your experiences have led to feeling stressed, anxious, and depressed. If this sounds like you, welcome to your return to joy. As a therapist specializing in empathetic and liberation-focused work, I am dedicated to supporting Black individuals from all gender identities. For the past eight years, I have provided individual and group therapy for multicultural populations in inpatient and outpatient settings. I have over 20+ years of professional and educational experience in higher education and advising. I currently specialize in offering an emotionally safe space for those highly impactful black folks in the arts and healing professions who are seeking support for anxiety, depression, racial trauma, personal growth, career/life transitions, grief, trauma, and work stress. I’m passionate about helping individuals re-envision their lives for more authentic living that is inclusive of more inspiration and joy.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The initial session will be one of information gathering with reference to the biological, psychological, and social history of the presenting mental health concern. We'll explore what brought you to therapy and then decide the most appropriate ways to help you make conducive progress towards healing and wellness. I'll discuss more about my background and therapeutic framework for sessions and allow time for you to ask questions as well.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

My focus areas include anxiety, depression, career and life transitions, race-based work-related stress and anxiety, cultural/racial awareness and healing, trauma, low self-esteem, and anger management. I most frequently utilize Cognitive Behavioral therapeutic techniques that are integrated and personalized toward the person's strengths and goals. Other therapeutic approaches include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and complimentary healing modalities with a cultural and racially informed approach to therapy.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

While my work is dedicated to assisting individuals from diverse backgrounds, I am particularly committed to supporting healing and holistic wellness for adult, black-identifying women and men. I recognize the unique experiences and challenges they face, and I strive to provide a space that honors their culture and identities and fosters healing and growth. In our sessions, individuals can expect an emotionally safe and non-judgmental space where they can freely express their emotions, fears, and desires.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with adult individuals who express a willingness and desire for change and growth in their lives. My clients are Black people who want to improve and enhance the quality of their lives, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. My clients have typically been artists, creatively inclined, helping professionals, and grounded spiritualists who offer support and inspiration to others and need support and inspiration for themselves. I am passionate about self-actualization and joy and for those black people interested and know they are worthy of experiencing more joy and self in their personal and professional lives.
