Stacey Tweedt, MA Psychotherapy, LPCC, LADC-S; When we give our power away or shrink ourselves, it creates a vacuum & we are compelled to fill it somehow (surrendering to others, losing ourselves in relationships, addictions or dysfunctional /sabotaging behaviors). We react by either processing or projecting it & this pattern will continue to repeat itself until it is addressed. That pattern prevents a major human function from happening, which is to feel the truth of all our feelings to some degree. Both men & women, boys & girls are shamed away from feelings, often through violence, abuse or neglect whether by families or culture. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor & Addictions (LADC-S) Counselor-that has worked in the fields of addiction, corrections, social work and mental health recovery for 15+ years, providing clinical services in a wide array of settings. As a therapist, my goal is to empower clients to build fulfilling, values-rich lives. I work with individuals and couples in recovery (The Gottman Method Certified Levels 1&2). We will work together to develop insight, identify personal values, and implement skills that will foster growth. I use an integrated approach including; Gottman Therapy, Adlerian, Schema Based, Solution Focused, Cognitive Processing, Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal Theory-Informed, Mindfulness and other skills based therapies/interventions to support learning, symptom management. I approach therapy with directness and a sense of humor. I’ve learned much about the human experience — no one is immune to suffering. Everyone experiences pain. We are resilient & we are all deserving of happiness.
In our first session we will take time to develop a strong therapeutic connection, while you take your time to share your unique life history, to better help me understand the lens through which you view your world.

I have been working with trauma survivors for 17 years, to help modify distorted or unhelpful thinking and negative reactions and behaviors, which have manifested as unhealthy survival strategies. Trauma can lead to guilt, anger, feelings of powerlessness, self-harm, acting out, depression, and anxiety. Post-traumatic stress disorder, which can manifest in a number of ways, such as negative recurring thoughts about the traumatic experience, emotional numbness, sleep problems, difficulty concentrating, and extreme physical and emotional responses to anything that triggers a memory of the trauma.
Cognitive processing, includes understanding the narrative and developing skills to recontextualize unhelpful feelings and thoughts, and regulate emotions. This often involves ways the individual can regain a sense of control over their mind and body.
Having worked with clients in both the mental health and substance use worlds for 17 years, I have been trained in many treatment methods and have developed an approach that caters to the needs of my clients. Together we will develop insight, identify/address these feelings, and implement skills that will foster growth. I use an integrated approach including; Interrelational Trauma Therapy, Adlerian, Schema Based, Solution Focused, Cognitive Processing, Somatic, Polyvagal Theory, Mindfulness and other skills-based therapies/interventions to support healing.
As a Christian, I incorporate Biblical principles into sessions if a client is looking to bring their faith into therapy, we can do so in a nonjudgemental manner.
Because we cannot change what we do not know, accept or acknowledge, I find that using a psycho-educational approach is so important to overall health and wellness. I will work with you to gain an understanding through introducing a variety of evidence-based treatments. We will also address health holistically, focusing on the mind, body, and spirit.
