What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

First and foremost, my goal is to ensure a non-judgmental environment where clients can feel comfortable to openly discuss vulnerable and sensitive issues . Therapy is one of the few places where you can express yourself freely and know that it will remain confidential. Your session goals are my priority. It’s your journey and a chance to pause and reflect on everything that’s happened during the week. Having a sounding board is so much more effective than just thinking things through by yourself. The initial session is 60-minutes and includes a comprehensive assessment of mental health, substance abuse, and trauma history. During this assessment, it’s your opportunity to discuss your current stressors and treatment goals. We will discuss a treatment plan of how I will help you to express yourself, develop coping skills, and guide you through the healing process. At times, I may assign homework to work on in between our sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Working as a paramedic, I quickly recognized my desire to help individuals with mental health as well as their physical health. This realization lead me to complete my masters degree in social work. I’ve worked with survivors of sexual assault and domestic/narcissistic abuse, Veterans and individuals who have experienced trauma, and those who have experienced grief and loss. I consider it a deeply meaningful experience to work with people when they are at their most vulnerable point and have reached out for help and support. I am always honored clients shared their stories, concerns and experiences with me.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of therapy that focuses on modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts by processing and unpacking negative or irrational beliefs. CBT is the idea that thoughts and perceptions influence behavior.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a structured of therapy with a strong educational component designed to provide skills for managing intense emotions and negotiating social relationships. The “dialectic” in dialectical behavior therapy is an acknowledgment that real life is complex, and health is not a static thing but an ongoing process using a continuous Socratic dialogue with the self and others. It identifies the need for change in a context of acceptance of situations and recognizes the constant flux of feelings—many of them contradictory—without having to get caught up in them.

Positive Psychology

Positive psychology is therapy focused on the character strengths and behaviors that allow individuals to build a life of meaning and purpose. It’s a process of coming out of surviving and moving into thriving.

Strength-Based

Strength-based therapy is a psychotherapy and counseling that focuses on your internal strengths and resourcefulness, rather than on your weaknesses, failures, and shortcomings. This focus sets up a positive mindfulness that helps build on your best qualities, find your strengths, improve resilience, and change your overall view to one that is more positive.
