Hello and welcome! My name is Carlton Hemphill, a 33-year-old Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the state of Illinois who is also board certified (NCC). I received my Masters from Roosevelt University in Clinical Psychology-Counseling Practice with a concentration on child and families. I have been working in the field since 2015, and practicing as an independent clinician in my own private practice since June 2023
In our first session, we’ll have the chance to introduce ourselves and see if we’re a good fit for working together. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is essential for successful therapy, so I aim to create a welcoming environment where you feel understood and supported. We'll start by reviewing the intake form you completed and I’ll ask follow-up questions to help you elaborate on your responses. We’ll also discuss various aspects of your life, such as medical history, family relationships, and your therapy history, to get a clear picture of your concerns. If you have any questions about me or our process, please feel free to ask—I’m here to ensure that our work together is as clear and supportive as possible for both of us.
My communication style I provide a warm, supportive environment where we focus on what’s happening in your life right now. Through direct, thought-provoking questions and unbiased feedback, I’ll help you gain clarity and make informed decisions. This process is centered on your insights, growth, and goals, and I’ll respect your pace and direction as we work together.
I work with adults aged 22-39 who are experiencing: - Anxiety or related OCD symptoms - Challenges related to LGBTQ+ identities or minority status - Concerns related to sexuality - Difficulties related to neurodivergence, including Autism Spectrum Disorder or ADHD - Parenting issues or child behavior concerns - Relationship issues - Significant life transitions
I use CBT to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, develop coping strategies, and make practical changes in their daily lives. This approach is collaborative and goal-oriented, supporting clients in understanding how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected.
My integrative approach means I blend techniques from multiple evidence-based therapies, allowing me to tailor sessions to each client’s unique needs. This flexibility ensures that our work together is responsive and personalized, drawing from the most helpful methods for your situation.
My relational approach focuses on how your relationships and social context influence your well-being. I help clients explore patterns in their connections with others, improve communication, and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships both inside and outside of therapy.
I use ERP, especially for anxiety and OCD, by gradually and safely exposing clients to feared situations while helping them resist compulsive responses. This process is collaborative and paced according to your comfort, supporting you in building confidence and reducing avoidance.
In my practice, a strengths-based approach means we focus on identifying and building upon your existing abilities and resilience. I help you recognize what’s already working in your life and encourage you to use your unique strengths to face challenges, fostering confidence and supporting growth at your own pace.
