Hello, my name is Sheila Owens, LCSW. I have worked in the field of mental health for more than 35 years. The past 8 years has been in a therapist role. I currently have my own therapy practice and contract with agencies/ insurances to offer individual therapy sessions to adults.
In our first session we will have an opportunity for introductions and then begin to dive into reasons that you believe that therapy can be helpful to you now. We will determine your goals and determine an individualized plan to begin working toward identified goals.
I have a strength of challenging thinking patterns which may be hindering growth, I offer coping strategies and skills to aid in positive change. I like to ensure that individuals maintain their autonomy, build strengths, and become closer to their ideal selves.
I have been utilizing CBT practices for many years to help individuals recognize and combat cognitive distortions. I aid them in finding effective ways to repattern cognitions that are no longer useful in their life.
I am DBT trained and worked with a specialty DBT team for several years. I aid individuals in incorporating a skills-based approach to develop core mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
