I am a board certified psychiatrist with a MS degree in Neuroimmunology. I attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City and residency at CPMC Sutter Health in San Francisco. I have extensive continuing education in integrative and functional psychiatry. I specialize in integrative/holistic psychiatric approaches to common mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and Mood Disorders. My care is based on evidence informed treatments as well as by lived experience in the QTBIPOC community and as a survivor of complex trauma.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is very comprehensive and open ended. I spend most of the time allowing the client to tell me their story in their own words while I proactively listen. We identify problems/goals to work towards and address any questions or concerns about the treatment. Also, I am open to address any questions clients may have about me such as my philosophy and approach to care.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Compassion is the cornerstone of the care I provide. Sometimes this means encouraging clients to break long standing protective mechanisms that might be outdated and/or maladaptive. I always strive to be respectful and honest. I tend to focus on strength based, motivational strategies when engaging clients to help them achieve their goals. I nurture a space that allows clients to feel safe entrusting me with their most vulnerable selves in a non judgmental way

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I enjoy working with adults of all ages who seek a collaborative approach to care. They may be struggling with life transitions, difficulty cultivating work/life balance , career stress/burnout, race based stress/cultural trauma, vicarious trauma including those in health/helping professions ( veterans, police officers, firefighters, first responders, etc) . I am keen to work with clients that appreciate being proactive in co-creating solution focused, individualized care plans that incorporate lifestyle changes, mind body practices, medications, natural/nutritional supplements, and therapy including EMDR.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have helped clients recognize and change distortions in their thinking about themselves and the world that inhibit them from maximizing their full potential

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Through lived experience as a member of the QTBIPOC community, I am sensitive to the influences of culture and society that shape us. We will work to explore how these forces impact how you think /behave, engage, and take up space in the world. I also have direct clinical experience delivering culturally sensitive care to LGBTQI members, veterans and ethnic minorities including the Maori in New Zealand.

Compassion Focused

We are often harder on ourselves than others, which results in undue self-criticism that can adversely impact work, relationships, and diminish our spirit/soul. I invite you on a journey of self-awareness, self-acceptance, and self-compassion that honors your humanity, which will extend to those in your family and community. We will develop an individualized plan of self and soul care that celebrates your strengths while enpowering you to learn and grow from missteps and negative emotions, that will ultimately help you achieve your aspirations and purpose

EMDR

I am in EMDR training/supervision towards certification. I use it to help clients struggling with intrusive memories of trauma that impair their ability to make meaning in a way that allows them to grow and thrive

Integrative

I use evidence based standard of care treatments including medications, CBT, and EMDR as well as evidence informed holistic interventions such as nutritional supplements, while optimizing healthy lifestyle , exercise, and yoga
