Hi, I’m Dr. Olivia Yearns, LCSW. I serve Black women navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, boundaries, and self-worth. My culturally responsive, evidence-informed care blends straightforwardness and compassion with practical tools. Together, we’ll slow down, make sense of your story, and build aligned habits to help you line up daily choices with your values and needs, so your life fits you—not the other way around.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
Our initial engagement begins with an intake process that involves a detailed assessment of your needs and goals. This includes discussing your history, present concerns, and what you hope to achieve through therapy. Therapy participants are measured by improved emotional regulation, coping skills, and relationship dynamics. Regular check-ins help adjust our approach based on your evolving needs and responses to treatment.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
Individuals I work with often tell me that my strength is translating compassion into tangible, achievable change. I blend culturally responsive care with evidence-based methods—CBT/ACT for thoughts and habits, and practices to calm the nervous system—plus solution-focused tools to build momentum. Our work together will clarify our values, needs, and boundaries, ensuring that our daily choices align with what matters. Sessions are grounded and practical: we set concise goals, track progress, and adapt using your feedback. Results clients report: less anxiety, stronger boundaries, healthier relationships, renewed self-trust, and a steadier sense of purpose. I specialize in supporting Black women to feel seen, heard, understood, and equipped with skills you can use right away.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment
(SFT) is a brief, goal-directed therapy that emphasizes solutions rather than problems. SFT centers on what you want to achieve through therapy and helps you identify and utilize your strengths and resources to achieve these goals.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT focuses on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns and behaviors. It can provide you with tools and strategies to increase your self-awareness, emotional regulation, reduction of symptoms, better stress reduction, and self-esteem. CBT improves negative thought patterns, mental health, and quality of life.
Psychoeducation
Psychoeducation is a method that provides you with information about mental health conditions and strategies for managing them. It helps you understand and cope with your situations in a more informed and proactive way.
Narrative
Narrative therapy focuses on the stories we tell about our lives. These stories, or "narratives," are how we make sense of our experiences and shape our identity. Sometimes, the stories we hold onto by negative experiences, societal expectations, or other people's perceptions. These stories can become limiting, making us feel stuck, powerless, or overwhelmed. If this sounds like you, then we can work together to explore the stories you tell yourself, identify how they shape your feelings and actions, and work on rewriting them to reflect your strengths and goals. This process can help you feel more empowered and in control of your life, making overcoming challenges and creating the future you want easier.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I help you embrace your thoughts and feelings without judgment while focusing on what truly matters to you. ACT empowers you to develop psychological flexibility, enabling you to navigate challenges more effectively. Together, we'll work on accepting what you can't control and committing to actions that align with your values, leading to a more fulfilling life.
