Thank you for reaching out to begin your journey of healing through individual psychotherapy at Grow. I'm so happy that you reached out for help. I am Linda Schmidt, LCSW, LCADC, a licensed therapist in New Jersey. I am a graduate of Fordham University, NYC with a masters degree in clinical social work. I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years' experience and a licensed certified drug and alcohol counseling with 7 years' experience in New Jersey. My clinical background has been developed in various programs and facilities such as hospitals, behavioral health centers, detox and inpatient substance abuse rehab facilities. Therapy is about telling the truth. Listening for it, discovering it, and acknowledging it with the help of someone who makes that possible through trust. It's also about growth beyond difficult times, with guidance and encouragement.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our initial visit, we will have an opportunity to get to know each other and get an idea of how to proceed. Future visits will be more therapeutic in nature. For example, in your second session, you may explore a specific symptom, problem, or past trauma you mentioned in the first session. When you are ready to explore your truth, it should be in the presence of someone you trust. Someone who will walk the path with you, asking the questions that guide the way. Someone who sees your strengths, and who can build strength. This is the time to invest in extra support. Contact me to arrange an appointment and begin to experience renewed hope!

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Life is unpredictable. Do you feel like you are on a rollercoaster...more downs than ups? When times are good, it can feel easier. But when times feel difficult, have you lost pleasure in the things you would normally enjoy? Are "what-ifs" feeding your anxieties and plaguing you with doubts? What's getting in the way? Have you or your family been impacted by addiction? Are you experiencing job stress, family tension, or marital friction? Perhaps you sense frustrations and stress are mounting. Sometimes these challenges turn us upside down and shatter our lives into broken pieces. You are not alone, and help is available to you. I specialize in working with adults struggling with mental health and addiction. I have experience working with clients with anxiety, depression, anger management issues, grief and loss issues, cognitive distortions, emotional and verbal abuse, and family issues among other issues.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have found that CBT is very effective it provides a structured, goal-oriented type of talk therapy. Many of my clients have found CBT to be helpful to manage mental health conditions, such as depression and anxiety, and emotional concerns, such as coping with grief or stress. CBT can also help manage non-psychological health conditions, such as insomnia and chronic pain.

Christian Counseling

I encourage my clients to use their faith in conjunction with therapy because to do so it to emphasize an individual's resilience and strength in times of crisis. When a client is in need of counseling, they are hungry to find someone who will be supportive in understanding their needs and help them to understand themselves. Transformation is the client's responsibility and prerogative. I seek to emulate Jesus Christ in who I am as a person, what I believe, how I live, and how I practice therapy. My clients expect me to model and communicate truth and support them to learn, grow and transform themselves into the image of Jesus Christ.

Strength-Based

I like to use strengths-based therapy as it aims to improve a person's mindset and instill a positive worldview. It enables them to see themselves as resourceful and resilient when experiencing challenging conditions or hardships in their lives. I have found that clients are able to identify factors that might be holding back a person’s growth. It empowers clients to be an agent of change by creating an environment that promotes the change they need or desire.
