Hello, my name is Dorrett McDonald-Lovell, and I am a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) licensed in Florida, New York, Colorado, Oregon, and New Mexico. With over 20 years of experience in healthcare, I am dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based mental health care to individuals across the lifespan. In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Welcome to your first session. Here’s what you can expect: Warm Welcome and Introduction: The session will begin with a brief introduction to help you feel comfortable and to explain my role as your psychiatric-mental health provider. Confidentiality: I will review confidentiality policies and answer any questions you may have about privacy and the limits of confidentiality. Discussion of Concerns: You’ll have the opportunity to share what brings you in, your current concerns, and any symptoms you’re experiencing. There’s no right or wrong way to share—this is your space. Comprehensive Assessment: I will ask questions about your mental health history, medical background, family history, lifestyle, and any previous treatments. This helps me gain a full understanding of your needs. Goal Setting: Together, we’ll discuss your goals for treatment and what you hope to achieve. Treatment Planning: I’ll explain possible treatment options, which may include therapy, medication, or a combination. We’ll discuss what feels most comfortable and appropriate for you. Questions and Next Steps: You’ll have time to ask questions. We’ll review next steps, including scheduling follow-up appointments and any initial recommendations. The first session typically lasts about 60 minutes. My goal is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where you feel heard and respected.

This client is open to a collaborative, holistic approach to care, which may include medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle modifications, and supportive resources. They value a safe, nonjudgmental environment where they can express themselves freely and work toward their personal goals. My ideal client is willing to engage in the therapeutic process, attend regular appointments, and actively participate in their treatment plan. They may be seeking support for managing stress, coping with life transitions, or addressing longstanding mental health concerns. Dorett has been a fantastic help in my journey towards better mental health. I was suffering from extreme anxiety and depression and through process I have been able to stabilize myself to a point where I enjoy things every day again and can smile. It’s rare to find someone so genuine, kind, and patient in these environments sometimes, I’m blessed to have such an amazing person to help!
