My name is Mehjabeen (Mehj) Aubol. I am a trained Trauma Therapist with significant experience addressing PTSD. I have been a therapist for the past 9 years, and during that time I have had significant experience working with individuals who have experienced sexual and physical abuse in their lifetime. I am Certified in utilizing Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) with adult clients and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) with children and adolescents, both addressing PTSD symptoms. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Washington, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania, and a National Certified Counselor located in Pennsylvania. I grew up immersed in more than one culture. I consider myself to have a strong cross-cultural understanding, and can relate to individuals who come from multiple cultures and backgrounds. My approach to counseling is always to get to know the individual first, understand their goals for counseling, and work with them as a team to help them get to where they desire to be in their life. I am always open to feedback and willing to try new methods or approaches that best fit the needs of each individual I work with, as every individual is unique! My general approach to therapy is to utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), which involves identifying and changing thoughts and feelings. What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session we will start with introductions, information about confidentiality, and information about scheduling. Then we will discuss what brings you to therapy. I like to get to know my clients in the first session, and understand what they would like to focus on in therapy. We will also likely set some goals for therapy. It is also helpful for me to know about your previous experiences in therapy, and have a better understanding of what worked well and what did not work well for you in the previous experiences with therapists.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Over the course of the past 9 years I have recognized that a lot of my clients have had some sort of trauma in their lives, whether or not they have realized it. I spend a lot of time processing trauma with my clients, in session. I am a trained trauma therapist and utilize Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) with adult clients and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) with children and adolescents. Some clients do not need a structured trauma therapy approach, but most clients find it beneficial to dig deep and identify the root cause of their presenting issues. I spend time in sessions uncovering the root cause of the presenting issues and how it affects them today.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I work with clients who come from various backgrounds and various stages in their lives. My clients are open to feedback, eager to learn about ways to improve their mental health, and willing to make some changes towards improvement in their lives. My clients recognize that I will guide the process for them, but that they need to implement the skills into their lives. Clients who work with me are generally willing to have deeper conversations after they have some time to get to know me and feel comfortable. A lot of my clients present with issues related to trauma, anxiety, depression, and family/relationship conflict. I utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), which is identifying and changing thoughts and feelings. My clients tend to find this approach beneficial.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) in sessions to help clients identify and change problematic thoughts and feelings. This approach can directly reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and more. Cognitive Behavior Therapy can also be utilized to increase self-esteem, build confidence, improve relationships with others, and more. I have been using CBT with my clients for 10 years, and I have seen the ways it can improve coping with stressors and mental health symptoms.

Cognitive Processing (CPT)

I am certified and trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), which is used specifically to reduce and treat symptoms of PTSD. The foundation of CPT is to identify and change problematic thoughts and feelings, especially related to self-blame. It is a very effective trauma treatment modality to address trauma and PTSD. I have been using CPT with my clients for 9 years with many types of trauma and my clients have had high rates of success with this approach.

Trauma-Focused CBT

Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is primarily used with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma in their lives. TF-CBT helps address PTSD symptoms. I am a certified TF-CBT therapist and have used this approach with children and adolescents for many years. TF-CBT encompasses identifying thoughts and emotions through art, games, and verbal identification. Clients will be able to discuss their trauma with me, while learning ways to cope with the emotions that come up for them. Similar to CBT, TF-CBT focuses on changing problematic thoughts and emotions.
