Hi, I’m Valerie. Are you having difficulty managing the day-to-day of life right now? Perhaps you have higher demands and expectations placed on you than usual, or you are working toward a particular goal that seems unattainable without a new direction. Many of us struggle with these same challenges and the good news is you do not have to face them alone. Whether you are dealing with loss, anxiety and depression, family crisis and/or other issues, if you are ready for change you are taking the first step now. My life’s passion is partnering with those like you who are seeking compassion, empathy, a safe space and healing environment to address your needs and goals. During therapy, you will learn about yourself and see your life choices in a new way. You might be unsure of why your thoughts, feelings and emotions are triggered by certain people, places and things, or notice a pattern of behavior that causes you distress. Our goal is to figure out the “what” and the “why” in order to understand and work toward change.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) provides the skills to recognize the connection between our thoughts, feelings/emotions and behavior/actions. It is also important to understand the origins of our thoughts, developed in the past, so psychodynamic psychotherapy is integrated as well. Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) uses tools focused on areas that include distress tolerance and emotional regulation, so aspects of this intervention are also included in my treatment.
