Hey there! I'm Karla. Do you feel stuck, as if your wheels are spinning and you don't know how to move forward? I work with individuals to determine what change they hope to see and develop a client-centered plan about how to work toward the change to get unstuck. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help individuals identify negative thinking patterns we can change to positively impact their moods and behaviors so the wheels aren't relentlessly spinning. Beginning therapy is a big deal and often feels like you're in the hot seat. So, I work hard to develop, foster, and maintain a therapeutic alliance to join with individuals to meet them where they are and we'll take it at your pace. Let's work together to find the change you're seeking.
At the first appointment, if you haven't completed the consent forms, I will ask you to do so. We will review the information in the forms, my qualifications, confidentiality, etc. I offer space for clients to talk about what brought them to therapy and any information they think would be helpful for me to know. We will complete an assessment together for me to learn more about how you're doing that specific day. Then, we review symptoms you may be experiencing. At the end of session, we will talk about whether you'd like to have a second appointment.
CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered, Strength Based
There is quite the number of research articles showing the importance of a therapeutic alliance and how this is often the catalyst for change in therapy. I work to create a space of comfort so the therapeutic alliance has a chance to blossom organically. I want to take time building rapport with an individual so they find the level of comfort they need in therapy. And this is the reason I am so willing to go at whatever pace you need. Because in a process that is already so uncomfortable, you deserve to find a bit of comfort inside the process.
