Hey there! I'm Karla. Do you feel stuck, as if your wheels are spinning and you don't know how to move forward? I work with individuals to determine what change they hope to see and develop a client-centered plan about how to work toward the change to get unstuck. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help individuals identify negative thinking patterns we can change to positively impact their moods and behaviors so the wheels aren't relentlessly spinning. Beginning therapy is a big deal and often feels like you're in the hot seat. So, I work hard to develop, foster, and maintain a therapeutic alliance to join with individuals to meet them where they are and we'll take it at your pace. Let's work together to find the change you're seeking.
At the first appointment, if you haven't completed the consent forms, I will ask you to do so. We will review the information in the forms, my qualifications, confidentiality, etc. I offer space for clients to talk about what brought them to therapy and any information they think would be helpful for me to know. We will complete an assessment together for me to learn more about how you're doing that specific day. Then, we review symptoms you may be experiencing. At the end of session, we will talk about whether you'd like to have a second appointment.
There is quite the number of research articles showing the importance of a therapeutic alliance and how this is often the catalyst for change in therapy. I work to create a space of comfort so the therapeutic alliance has a chance to blossom organically. I want to take time building rapport with an individual so they find the level of comfort they need in therapy. And this is the reason I am so willing to go at whatever pace you need. Because in a process that is already so uncomfortable, you deserve to find a bit of comfort inside the process.
I work with adults who are over the age of 18 and may experience a wide variety of mental health concerns.
My approach is eclectic, blending a wide variety of therapeutic modalities to meet needs efficiently and effectively. With a background in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), Person-Centered therapy, and strength-based therapy, I draw from a diverse toolkit to help navigate challenges.

Karla made it way less scary to start therapy again after taking 2.5 years off...and I am very excited to work with her.

I could tell Karla was going to be a good fit as a therapist when I read her thoughtful profile. I was not wrong. I think she really understands me and my needs. She was forthright, but didn't push. I did not feel like I had to do all the talking on our first session. She answered all my questions and made me feel heard
