Hello there! My name is Abbi Jones Pruitt, and I'm a Board Certified (NCC), Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor (LPC-S) licensed in Texas and Louisiana. With over 20 years of experience in the mental health and social services field, I take pride in providing a safe and non-judgmental space for people to share their thoughts and explore new ways of coping with life's challenges. Taking the first step to seek counseling takes courage. For some, it can be frightening, intimidating and uncomfortable; for others, embarrassing. My goal is to help make it one of the best decisions of your life!
During the initial session, I briefly start with introductions, followed by discussions of client rights. If the client fully understands their rights and give consent to treatment, I then provide them with the space to discuss what brings them in to therapy. During this time, my clients can expect to receive respect, empathy, genuineness, and honesty throughout the session so that they feel comfortable with openly exploring their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
As an experienced psychotherapist, I believe that my greatest strength as a provider is my ability to establish a professional and mutually respectful relationship with my client(s). This is vitally important and necessary as it allows for effective and meaningful outcomes. Throughout the therapeutic relationship, I work closely with my clients to build rapport so that they feel comfortable in exploring areas that are important to them, not me. I remain cognizant of their needs and desires and assist them in developing treatment goals that are S.M.A.R.T, and consistent with projected outcomes, all while monitoring their progress and making adjustments as needed. It's their journey! I simply get the pleasure of witnessing them become better versions of themselves.
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a structured, goal-oriented type of therapy utilized to assist clients in managing mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety, as well as emotional concerns, such as coping with grief or stress. With over 20 years of experience, I take pride in providing a safe and non-judgmental space for people to share their concerns and explore new ways of coping with life's challenges.
Cognitive Processing Therapy is a form of therapy that can help people who have experienced trauma challenge negative thoughts and beliefs, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Through the empathy, support, and guidance that I provide during sessions, I have found this form of treatment to be effective for a variety of populations, including veterans, sexual assault victims, and refugees.
As a licensed professional, I integrate various treatment modalities that are tailored specifically for each of my clients individual needs. My approach is person-centered, meaning I work collaboratively with you to empower and assist you in gaining insight through a balance of acceptance and personal growth.
Respect, empathy, genuineness, compassion, and honesty- along with humor- are offered in my sessions so that you feel comfortable with openly exploring your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Not matter the needs or circumstances, I can assure you that I will provide a safe and confidential environment for you.
Psychoeducation combines the elements of cognitive-behavior therapy, group therapy, and education. The aim in my sessions are to provide the patient and families with knowledge about various facets of the symptoms, illness, diagnosis and its treatment so that we can work together for a better overall outcome.
