I am a licensed practicing counselor in the state of Virginia, and I can help. I received my Masters from the University of Lynchburg and I have over seven years of experience in the mental health field working with individuals across the lifespan with a variety of presenting issues and concerns. I am passionate about the human experience and promoting a life of ease, calmness, and joy. I connect with my clients and work with individuals and couples to gain awareness and understanding of the “why” behind their thoughts, behaviors, and relational patterns. Figuring out what is working in your life and what needs to be shifted, whether it is perspective or behaviors (Oftentimes it is both!) and the impact those have on your emotional well-being. There is power and control that you have even when it doesn’t feel like it. I am here to help you determine what that looks like and how to implement effective strategies to live an intentional life and find a healthy way forward.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first appointment we will be completing the intake process. I will review consent forms with you for treatment and engage in building our therapeutic relationship. Getting to know you and help you feel comfortable is my priority and this appointment will be focused on information gathering on current issues and presenting concerns, as well as some historical information and medical history. We will also develop your treatment plan during this session and the goals you are hoping to meet from the counseling process.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

From my experience working in the mental health field and my human experience living this life, I am passionate about walking along side others and supporting them. I feel it is my calling to meet other people where they are at and provide the space they need for support, problem-solving, and collaboration. I am compassionate in my treatment approach and will help you feel comfortable in our sessions to share openly with me and find a way forward from the challenges you are currently facing. There is hope.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I often utilize a cognitive behavioral lens when working with clients to help them in identifying core beliefs and automatic thought patterns that are no longer serving them. At times in life, we can find our thought patterns to be problematic and negatively impacting our emotional wellbeing. I can support you in gaining awareness and in challenging, refocusing, and reframing thought patterns in ways that can benefit your mental health and overall wellness. We will focus on emotions and ways to manage them effectively, as well as behavioral changes you would like to see for yourself. I have implemented techniques related to this therapy model in individual, couples, and group counseling settings for the past 7 years.

Christian Counseling

For clients who are seeking evidenced based counseling treatment accompanied with Christian focused sessions and a biblical worldview, I have a background in serving clients implementing both of these when working together. I am a Christian and I believe it can be so beneficial and powerful to incorporate God into therapy sessions for those of you who are also believers and feel comfortable. The peace of God surpasses all understanding. It can be cathartic to focus on the Lord and his word as a part of the therapy process.

Couples Counseling

I have experience working with couples and supporting them through challenges in their relationship and developing healthy and effective communication and perspective taking skills. I focus on giving couples space to process their thoughts and feelings related to various stressors within the relationship while maintaining a goal-oriented focus towards actionable steps that will likely strengthen and improve the relationship. Repairing trust and gaining awareness on pillars of your relationship is often a part of treatment. I also often utilize concepts related to love languages in order to help you and your significant other better understand one another and meeting each other's expectations and needs within the relationship.

Integrative

I believe in individualized care and the importance of being able to adapt to your preferences and needs for therapy. This requires me to implement various treatment modalities and areas of knowledge to best help you meet your goals. I use many types of evidenced based treatment interventions and provide the space for you to process your thoughts and feelings in a safe space while also being proactive on finding a way forward in life.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I implement components of this treatment to assist you in determining what you want for your life. I provide prompts that support proactive thinking and decision-making that helps promote confidence and peace within yourself as you navigate life's stressors and mental health symptoms.
