What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Someone who works with me should know that I am committed to seeing things get better in their lives. My intake process looks pretty typical in the sense of the questions asked (e.g., history and presenting concerns), but I attempt to make it as informal as possible. In terms of progress, I believe it can look different depending on the challenges presented. The size of the progress doesn’t determine the significance of the progress; positive change of some sort is progress.
What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?
I utilize a holistic approach and pull from different treatment methodologies (i.e. Solution-Focused Therapy, DBT, CBT, TFCBT, Motivational Interviewing, to name a few). I may assign homework but assignments are typically experiential and don’t involve textbook readings. I enjoy working with any client willing to put in the work, as I supply them with the tools and they apply them to their lives.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
My upbringing and life experiences have allowed me to learn that we all have blind spots! Approaching others and myself with grace and openness toward growth is key for me. I aim to treat everyone as unique and allow them to write their story in their own words as I get to know them; I intentionally leave assumptions toward any culture, including my own, at the door.
