What if I told you that you already have the answers? How you speak to yourself matters. I'm happy to help you rediscover the compassionate inner voice that you deserve. We'll identify unhelpful patterns of thinking that influence your beliefs about yourself and the world around you, reprocess residual feelings and identify dissociative behaviors that sometimes follow really terrible experiences and I will bear witness as you rewrite your story. I'm also a really great listener when you just need to vent about the really f'ed up day you're having. It can get really lonely when you feel like the people you love the most don't understand or won't be able to handle what you have to unload. Our sessions will be virtual but a human connection is guaranteed. It's YOUR time.
I have spent the better part of the last 12 years providing therapy to people who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety, health-related problems, going through crisis and many other things that can cause someone to feel out of control, helpless or hopeless. We all have strengths despite what we've been through, so I try to help you find out what those are to help you get through what is causing distress now and can be utilized going forward to improve your quality of life.
I tend to utilize treatment methods that are based in cognitive-behavioral therapy because my clients have had success with these, but I do not 'prescribe' particular treatment modalities based on any diagnosis since a one-size-fits-all mentality does not work in therapy. I prefer to get to know my clients a bit before we agree on what works best for them and that may include CBT and any combination of other methodologies, including prolonged exposure, cognitive processing and narrative therapy. If we agree that it may be helpful, I also conduct eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) which is a great way to help someone overcome autonomic responses to traumatic events.
I have extensive experience in treating anxiety and panic disorder and finding ways to identify and name how traumatic experiences in the past have affected your life so that we can take full advantage of your brain's capacity for neuroplasticity. Together will help you to think differently and make some lasting changes to the way you process new information.
