You have taken the first step and started looking for therapists. If therapy is something that you find difficult you are in the right space. As a practitioner I utilize a person centered approach to meet my clients where they are at. I have been a practitioner for seven years. I have experience working with families in an outpatient mental health clinic, families who are currently in the child welfare systems and clients who have experienced complex trauma. My goal as a therapist is to ensure that client feel protected and heard. Many of the clients I see have not ever felt heard by the loved ones in their life. I do this through various approaches, listening to your story, providing coping skills, and empowering my clients to communicate their needs to others.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
When working with adults I like to do an intake session that helps them share an outline of the story. I will share a little bit about myself and my approaches to therapy. Then, we will make treatment goals to build a framework on what the client wants to work on. When working with children, I prioritize creating a safe and welcoming environment for them to share their story, particularly since starting therapy as someone under 18 can feel daunting, especially in a virtual setting. Typically, I engage the youth in age-appropriate games or activities to establish rapport and facilitate a comfortable atmosphere. Together, we collaboratively set treatment goals, ensuring their involvement and ownership in the therapeutic process right from the start. My ultimate aim is for my young clients to feel at ease with me from the beginning, laying the foundation for building trust and fostering a positive therapeutic relationship.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
In therapy, my strengths lie in my ability to actively listen, to recall details accurately, and to create a safe and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable sharing their stories. With a deep sense of empathy, I approach each client and their concerns with genuine understanding and compassion, regardless of the complexity or nature of their problems. My commitment to fostering a trusting and nonjudgmental space allows clients to explore their thoughts and emotions openly, knowing they are heard, validated, and respected. Ultimately, I strive to empower my clients on their journey towards healing and self-discovery, utilizing my strengths to guide and support them every step of the way.
