Hi! My name is Ronda Brown. I have been providing counseling services for the past 14 years with a varied population of clients, including children, teens, and adults. I am here to provide a supportive space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. I will work alongside you to understand your challenges, develop coping mechanisms, and achieve your personal goals, all while creating a safe and confidential environment for you to share openly.
The first counseling session can be a mix of anticipation and curiosity. It is a time of building therapeutic rapport, completing paperwork, setting goals, and the opportunity to ask any questions you may have as well. Building rapport is the start of building a trusting relationship with your counselor by sharing your story, your history, and your current situation. The first session is also a time to set goals and discuss what prompted you to seek out counseling, what you hope to achieve, and to set the direction for future sessions. Before your scheduled first session, please write down any questions or information that you would like to share during this time.
One of my greatest strengths as a counselor is the ability to build rapport with clients. It is important that clients feel heard and supported when they are sharing their thoughts and feelings. Actively listening is a skill that shows the respect and builds the trust of the client, so they feel safe while exploring and processing things that are often difficult to talk about.
Trained at the National Child Advocacy Center in Huntsville, AL in 2016. I have worked with children and teens addressing history of traumas.
Trained in Sandtray therapy in 2024. This modality can be used with any age.
Cognitive behavioral therapy is the modality used the longest amount of time and is often the foundation of other modalities used.
