Congratulations on making the great choice to work on improving your mental health. My name is Jacquet Williams, and I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 15 years' experience in counseling adolescents and adults. I incorporate modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and psychoeducation into my clients' sessions, in an effort to help them identify unhealthy thoughts and behaviors that are negatively impacting their overall health. My goal is to help you ultimately reach your goals, and I look forward to working with you!
Our first session will focus on brief introductions, and an explanation of what you can expect from the counseling process. I'll then listen carefully as you share information on the specific challenges that led you to seek counseling. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in subsequent sessions. I may take some notes, but don't worry, I'm listening!
I am a highly empathic person, and this informs my counseling philosophy. I believe in a client-centered approach that emphasizes rapport-building and respect for my clients. I will also, however, gently confront clients, if necessary, to encourage their growth.
I enjoy helping adolescents and adults who are motivated to examine their thought patterns and behaviors, so they can ultimately identify the need to replace unhealthy thoughts and behaviors with healthier, more positive ones.
CBT helps identify negative and unhelpful thought patterns, that lead to similarly negative and unhelpful behaviors. Once negative and unhelpful thoughts are identified, practical strategies can be used to change the unwanted behavior. I've used CBT successfully in working with clients in clinical and school settings.
I incorporate motivational Interviewing in sessions through the use of open-ended questions, that encourage the client to identify own, most important reasons for embracing change.
Because I believe in the power of education, particularly as it pertains to health, I share information with clients that will help them understand their diagnoses.
