Hi! I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) in Texas. I have lived here for 24 years, but my roots are in New York. I received my Masters from Pace University and am currently a PhD candidate at Capella University. I have been working as a counselor for over 20 years. The majority of my virtual counseling experience is helping young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and low self-esteem. I also work full-time in schools, and have extensive experience in foster homes, helping children and their families.
Before we meet for our first session, I request that you fill out a psychosocial form. This gives me an idea of your history, and a better understanding of why you are coming to counseling. During our first session, we will use the form as a guide for you to tell me what you expect from me and what goals you'd like to achieve. This helps us get to know each other better, and sets a positive foundation for our work together.
My greatest strengths is that I am an excellent listener, I am laid back, and I truly am rooting for you to feel happy and successful. I want you to feel encouraged to be genuine and open about yourself, and feel assured that I care about your thriving well-being. You will feel comfortable working with me to identify your positive attributes and maximize them to reach your desired result. My goal for you is empowerment and gaining the confidence to make transformations.
I enjoy helping others reach goals and find a place of happiness in their lives. Life is tough and can be unfair. We become faced with heartbreaks and afflictions. It is normal for us to go through difficult times where we feel sad, bitter, angry or just "stuck in a rut." If you find yourself in a challenging place right now, if you are striving for more but don't know how to get there and if you are ready to make some changes, then I'd love to be the person assisting you to rise up. My specialties are substance abuse and addiction, cps and foster care cases, and complex trauma related issues.
I use different methods, depending on the situation. However, I like positive psychology because it already incorporates Humanistic, Mindfulness, and CBT. I have studied it, and try to use it as the foundation for my practice.
Redefining thoughts to change behavior and emotion is very important. It is incorporated into my practice with most of my clients. I also use DBT and REBT.
I believe that clients learn a lot by the experiential process of using Gestalt techniques. I also incorporate techniques from Brainspotting, EMDR, and EFT.
SFBT is helpful with clients that need to stay focused and see faster results. I sometimes incorporate Motivational Interviewing with this to address addictions and other compulsions.
I have worked with students after a school shooting, and children/teens in foster care, so I have had extensive training in trauma and grief counseling. When working with younger children, I incorporate Play Therapy.
