Are you a young adult who wants freedom and independence, but are also unsure how to handle all of the responsibilities that come with being an “adult”? Do you feel like you should have it all figured out by now, but in reality- you have no idea what direction your life should go? Are you a young adult who has experienced childhood trauma that is impeding your growth and ability to make decisions? Or have you found yourself in unhealthy and toxic relationships that are draining you of your emotional energy? Welcome! I’m Megan and I am excited to help you on this journey to adulthood and self-discovery! Research tells us that the brain is not fully developed until age 26, yet we are expected to make life-altering decisions at age 18! I’m here to help you manage the pressures from others and yourself, explore opportunities that are all around you, and help you imagine the possibilities of a future designed by you! Together we can work through past trauma and heal the wounds that are holding you back or keeping you in toxic situations. For the past 20 years, I have worked with children and families involved in the child welfare system and/or juvenile probation system. And for the past 10 years, I have worked exclusively with young adults aging out of foster care to process and heal from their childhood traumas and successfully transition into adulthood. I am proficient in authentic youth engagement and believe that young people should have a voice in their futures. I am trained in Trauma Informed Care, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma Focused -Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Level II Applications of Fostering Success Coaching Model. I have presented on a national and local level to youth-serving agency leaders on authentic youth engagement and how they can implement this practice in their own programs. I have also been featured in articles on authentic youth engagement by Casey Family Programs and Youth Law Center. I am excited to walk alongside you as you take the next steps toward your future!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Educate, Empower, and Equip. That is what I aim to achieve during our time together. I want to provide you with education on the challenges and opportunities that may be in your life. I will also provide you with psychoeducation on the impact of trauma, moving forward, and how to challenge negative thinking styles that may be holding you back. I believe in empowering you to live the life you want to live! That is my goal. Not for you to live a life I think you should live, or someone else in your life wants you to live, but what YOU want! I will empower you to be in the drivers seat of your treatment. I will strive to equip you with the tools you need to move forward and create a life of your own design!

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel my unique knowledge of young adults who have experienced childhood trauma is my biggest strength. I can empathize with you while empowering you to move forward and design the future you want for yourself. I am accepting and open minded; therefore, my clients feel safe sharing their challenges, triumphs, and goals for the future. My clients can explore their own identities and are empowered to make decisions for themselves.
