I received a Bachelor's degree in Social Work in 2007 from the University of South Florida, and went on to receive my Master's degree in Social Work from USF in 2010. During that time I worked full time and interned working with clients that had experienced traumatic events - mostly sexual assault or abuse. Before starting my private practice, I worked as a school social worker with students ages 3-22 for 12 years, gaining my licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, becoming a qualified LCSW supervisor.
I would expect that each client should walk away from a session feeling better than they walked in. Even during the busiest times when it's difficult to carve out an hour for anything, you should leave the session feeling glad that you kept your appointment. I will help you set goals and then point out and celebrate every success. Therapy will be a safe space for you to vent and feel heard and validated. If we are also able to have a few laughs in the time we have, I would not be surprised.
I try to find creative solutions to therapy based on your needs, which might include mindfulness activities based on your interests, therapeutic game play, creating concrete goals and plans, and/or following your lead to find the best evidence-based practice that will work for you.
Are you a neuro-diverse person struggling in a world designed for a different brain (or do you suspect you are)? Is it hard for you to "do the thing" even if it's something that you feel "should" be easy? Are lingering effects from trauma holding you back? Most of my experience has focused on clients with ADHD, Autism, and other neuro-divergencies, clients with trauma, and the LGBTQ+ population.
